11am -7:30pm / Full Time/ 40 Hours

We are aggressively seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant with at least four years’ experience to fill a position at our Emory Hospital Midtown location.

The primary responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Assistant are to provide back-up to department lead and may assign daily tasks or distribute workload, as needed. This position will be responsible to train, on board, including completing new staff training and orientation packets, and act as a mentor to new staff. To assist in writing procedures; may perform venipuncture as required; attend educational in-services and training classes as appropriate and work with leader to formulate a plan for professional development. Must be diligent in the practice of the principles of sterile technique and other infection control policies and standards and take the necessary precautions in keeping with laboratory, organizational and other safety mandates.

The person in this position will work in various areas of the clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories and will perform and evaluate semi-technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens, test material/reagents, blood products, and quality control material. Duties may also include registering patients, ordering tests, collecting samples, and assessing the acceptability of samples for testing; processing samples for testing including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping; provide support for clinical testing including preparation of slides, loading instruments, and result reporting. May also perform waived and point-of-care testing while upholding the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes. Communicates with hospital nursing service, physicians, procurement agencies, and others regarding testing of laboratory specimens. Reviews patient information and test orders on paper requisitions and computerized test requests. Expected to communicate any issues quickly and respectfully with escalation of issues, problems, and opportunities to supervisory level for resolution, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent with four years of experience.

  • Degree in Biology, Science or related major may be considered in lieu of experience.
