Job Summary
The Lean Tooling Director is responsible for building lean capability and guiding the tooling organization in their lean transformation, creating flow, and achieving world class tooling turnaround times. This highly influential leadership position drives lean throughout the end-to-end tooling process, including tooling demand creation, tooling materials planning, and tooling turnaround times at the tooling centers to achieve improved SQDC outcomes.
To achieve this mission, the Tooling Lean Leader partners with stakeholders across the enterprise including Value Stream Leaders, Sourcing, Quality, and all Region roles to first operate to standard and then make breakthrough improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Own and continuously improve the end-end value stream for tooling operations. Examples of specific activities include:
Mapping the current and future state tooling value streams. Future states are created each year and the foundation for the next year targets and transformation action plan.
Creating, updating, and continuously improving the transformation action plan of the tooling value stream to transition from the current state to the next future state – each year – so that the tooling value stream reaches ever-higher SQDC performance.
Creating and maintaining the “Tooling Lean Playbook” applying the Pit Crew concept to all tooling inspection/restocking processes, establishing the needed kits/supermarkets/feeder lines, and creating continuous flow of value to reduce tooling turnaround lead times.
Working with the leadership team in the Atlanta Tooling Center to create a “Tooling Lean Showcase” site.
Leading all value stream actors in the application of lean to their process step(s) including complete standardized work, kitting with pull (tools + consumables), kaizen of process, etc.
Establishing, monitoring, and improving daily management (process and templates) in all tiers in the tooling centers.
Owning and continuously improving (based on tooling operations feedback) the leader standard work templates for Work Leaders, Operation Leaders, and Tool Center Managers.
Training tooling personnel in problem solving and ensuring problem solving is applied at all levels.
Be accountable for achieving breakthrough year-on-year results in safety, quality, on-time delivery, lead time and cost performance of the tooling value stream through lean. Examples of specific activities include:
Working in tandem with Tooling Operations to maintain the tooling bowler (scorecard) and transformation action plan (hoshin kanri/kaizen calendar) execution, communication, and results (KPI).
Managing the value stream cadence and operating reviews in support of all above
Personally leading 10+ kaizen events per year.
Build lean culture and lean capability of all stakeholders in partnership with region & value stream lean leaders and operating personnel. Examples of specific activities include:
Personally frequenting Gemba (in the tooling centers) to observe, listen to and learn from the tooling teams executing the tooling standards – identifying problems and opportunities for improvement.
Monitoring and measuring the tooling continuous improvement process whereby value stream processes and standards are updated from Gemba improvement suggestions.
Travel may be required
May be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.
Required Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in related field with minimum five years of Field Engineer or Project management experience; additional years of experience in power generation can be substituted for degree
11+ years progressive experience and demonstrated success/knowledge.
6+ years managing and developing multi-discipline teams, preferably with international reach across multiple service types
5+ years of experience in deployment of lean in a manufacturing/shop floor environment with a proven track record of implementing significant improvements in lead time, cost and inventory turns
Strong experience in power generation and field services experience in Heavy Duty Gas and/or Steam Turbine maintenance
English proficiency required
Desired Characteristics:
Master’s degree in related field, or equivalent preferred
Former Tooling Operations, Repairs, or Global Supply Chain experience
Experience leading a team in a matrixed environment
Experience leading and teaching lean methodologies
Demonstrated results leading improvement activities such as lead time reduction and developing cost remediation programs
Excellent communication and management skills, strong interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to work with all levels of employees
Experience in power generation maintenance processes
Strong project planning and organizational skills
Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
Demonstrated year-on-year KPI improvement
Work well both independently and in a team environment, including in remote work settings
Compensation and Benefits:
The annual salary range for this position is $118,900 to $196,300. This is an exempt from overtime position. FieldCore benefits include insurance (medical, dental, vision, disability, and life), retirement savings, health and Wellness reimbursement, and a bonus or incentive program. Eligibility for FieldCore benefits is determined under the terms of the applicable benefits plan.
