Ohio University Planner in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Planner is responsible for supporting campus planning functions for the University. Position will engage in a variety of projects related to higher education campus planning, programming, site studies, feasibility studies, and urban design. The planner will work in a team-based environment with co-workers, clients, and user groups.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning – performs professional work related to variety of planning assignment, including space and site planning, programming, feasibility analysis, development of alternatives, and analytics on for all 9 university locations, as required. Makes recommendations to integrate into master plan, strategic plan and facilities planning issues, with a focus on the University Space Initiative and associated projects (Daily)

  • Planning – Develops and contributes to complex planning studies and programming for short, mid, and long-term planning for space, site, facilities, transportation, capital projects, landscape, and infrastructure projects. Plans and develops short and long range programs and engages with leaders to promote and foster program success. Collects and applies data for planning related to long-term campus changes. Assists in the development, updates, and compliance with campus and space planning principles and policies (Weekly)

  • Planning Research – Conducts research on project needs and prepares reports on physical land use, facilities and space use, transportation plans, studies and analyses. Responds to various requests for reports and documentation concerning the functional use of facilities and space in assist University in short- and long-range planning. Collects and applies data for planning related to long-term campus changes (Weekly)

  • People – Works with senior leaders, University departments and personnel, and external constituencies to strategize, plan, and implement major facilities-related programs and projects. Assists in directing the work of student interns with assist with space planning, updates to space and building information and drawings; collaborates with staff from other Units.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Interior Architecture or related field of study

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience

*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships

  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems

  • Group facilitation skills for use with community workshops

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Ability to manage projects effectively and meet firm deadlines

  • Database management knowledge is desirable

  • Rivet software knowledge is desirable

Advertised Salary:

The target salary range is $51,281 – $67,947 commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
