Ohio University Early Childhood Assistant Teacher - Temporary, Fall Semester 2024 in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education – Child Development Center at Ohio University invites applicants for 1 Early Childhood Assistant Teacher position. Candidates should have experience teaching children ages birth to 5 years old. The successful applicant will bring strong qualifications, be reliable and possess a positive attitude.

General Work Habits

Support the teacher in supervision and teaching young children by caring for their daily needs, planning and coordinating activities, following Early Leaming Content standards, maintaining ratios, and working collaboratively with other faculty and staff. Guiding OHIO students by modeling Developmentally Appropriate Practices and ensuring they are able to appropriately interact with young children. They will work with Teachers, families and other professionals to provide the highest quality of care.

Collaborate with CDC teacher with necessary childcare documentation and communication with families and coordinate classroom experiences.

Is friendly, dependable, respectful, positive, flexible, calm, and hardworking.

Is responsive and able to prioritize the needs of the classroom.

Has working knowledge of computers and able to check email daily.

Approaches feedback and direction with a learning attitude.

Communicates directly and practices conflict resolution.

Maintains Classroom Environments with clean, safe and organized classroom adhering to all licensing and accreditation standards.

Flexibility and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Able to work with small groups and individual children.

Builds empathy and problem solving in children and uses a variety of effective guidance and management strategies.

Greets families and communicates with confidentiality and respect.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED

One year of related work experience with young children is also required.

Equivalent work experience will be considered for those who have a high school diploma or GED and related work experience.

Successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

An Associates Degree .

Three or more years of experience working in an early childhood classroom.

Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards, and the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
