Systems Administrator Lead

Where you’ll work:

You will work onsite in Crystal City, VA initially and then transition to onsite in Manassas, VA within the first year.

An average day:

As Systems Administrator Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration, maintenance, and optimization of both domestic and international IT infrastructures, including data centers supporting a large federal enterprise effort. This role requires strong leadership capabilities to manage a team of systems administrators, ensuring optimal system performance, security, and compliance with federal standards. The Systems Administrator Lead will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical applications and services. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of systems administrators, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback.

  • Oversee the administration of servers, storage, and virtualization environments across multiple data centers.

  • Manage the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems, applications, and patch management processes.

  • Ensure system availability, reliability, and performance in line with SLAs and operational requirements.

  • Implement and maintain security best practices, including access control, system hardening, and vulnerability management.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to integrate systems and enhance overall infrastructure.

  • Monitor system health, perform proactive maintenance, and respond to incidents and service requests.

  • Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery activities.

  • Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of new systems and enhancements.

  • Travel will be required to support various domestic and international systems operations and projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in systems administration, including at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.

  • Expertise in Windows and Linux server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent.

  • Proficient in managing storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery processes.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid cloud integration.

  • Familiarity with automation tools like PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform for configuration management and deployment.

  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.

  • Understanding of federal IT security standards, including NIST, FISMA, or DISA STIG compliance.

  • Excellent communication, team management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead in a high-pressure environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have an active Top Secret with SCI eligibility.

  • Will be subject to a federal background investigation.

  • Must be able to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally, international travel will require a current US Passport.
