Amazon Software Development Engineer, AWS Insight and Optimization (Level 5) in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Our team aims to be the world's authoritative provider of AWS computing insight. Customers can understand, control, and optimize usage of AWS products. We sit at the nexus of all AWS services and interact directly with end-customers. We build relationships with teams across AWS to ensure a secure and reliable customer experience. We take inputs from these services and merge them with millions of events per second to produce actionable insights.

Providing a scalable platform to support AWS' expanding business is complex architecturally. Accurate cost and usage information is critical. Enterprise customers make major decisions based on the timeliness, accuracy, and detail of data our products provide.

Key job responsibilities

  • You own the full process end-to-end: requirements, designs, reviews, coding, launches, operations, mentoring and driving continuous improvement.

  • You solve difficult problems using appropriate technologies and best practices.

  • You invent, design, and build stable, performant software with your team.

  • You are proficient in various design approaches, applying them appropriately with pragmatic solutions.

  • You write understandable code considering its legacy.

  • You avoid short-term workarounds, implementing proper complexity initially.

  • You create flexible, appropriately-engineered software, reusing where possible.

  • You use resources efficiently (e.g., hardware, database, CPU).

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
