POLITICO Senior Research Analyst, Environmental Regulations (Contract) in Arlington, Virginia

POLITICO is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to help expand its regulatory intelligence and information services product, AgencyIQ. Since its founding in early 2020, AgencyIQ has quickly become the premier source of regulatory intelligence and analysis for regulatory professionals working in the life sciences and chemicals sectors, and is relied upon by many of the top companies, trade groups, law firms and advocacy groups in the markets we serve.

As a subject matter expert in environmental/sustainability policies issued by U.S. and European regulators including Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. state agencies, European Environment Agency, and EU member state agencies, the Senior Research Analyst will be responsible for staying abreast of and analyzing regulatory changes and developments, articulating the type and degree of impact on specific industry sectors, and contextualizing the information for an audience of knowledgeable regulatory professionals.

The Senior Research Analyst will join a team of experienced researchers responsible producing a mix of daily content, in-depth research, weekly insights, directed deliverables and presentations. The role will be part of a broader team examining the impact of global regulations and policy on the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology sectors.

This is a contract to hire position with a probationary period.

What You’ll Do:

This job entails a significant amount of writing, and specifically written analysis of new regulatory developments. More broadly, the job of the Senior Research Analyst is to serve as a subject matter expert on matters of environmental regulation.

  • Produce a quarterly “heat map” notifying our users of new and/or evolving environmental regulations in the U.S. and Europe that could impact their businesses

  • Produce daily and/or weekly analyses of specific regulatory developments, including new regulations, guidance documents, policies, announcements, meetings, or trends in the U.S. and Europe

  • Participate in or lead AgencyIQ webinars to address relevant regulatory topics

  • Connect directly with AgencyIQ customers to address their specific questions concerning environmental regulations

  • Develop, maintain and analyze specific research data sets

  • Keep track of emerging regulatory developments and assist colleagues with research projects; and/or

  • Help review research authored by your colleagues.

  • Cultivate relationships with customers and other industry contacts to supplement coverage efforts, including idea sourcing.

  • Deliver custom environmental research projects to AgencyIQ customers in the industries we serve.

  • Work closely with members of AgencyIQ’s commercial and product teams to support new business and product development activities.

What You'll Need:

  • Experience analyzing environmental regulations, guidance and policies from U.S. and European regulators including Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. state agencies, major U.S. municipalities, European Environment Agency, and EU member states;

  • Experience writing about regulatory developments in a deadline-driven environment for an executive or industry audience (e.g., for an internal company newsletter or for externally-facing publications);

  • 2+ years of prior work experience related to regulatory affairs (e.g., working for a company, trade group, regulator, or professional services company);

  • Experience with (or be comfortable) writing neutral, non-partisan, objective analysis;

  • An affinity for reading, analyzing, writing, speaking and learning about challenging regulatory topics; working in a collaborative, friendly environment

  • Attention to detail and accuracy;

While not required, your candidacy may benefit from:

  • Advanced degree related to policy analysis or science (e.g., PhD, MPH, MS, JD, etc);

  • Experience developing data and technology information services products for B2B audiences;

  • Experience working in or adjacent to business media, such as with or for trade publications;

  • Advanced certification or education related to regulation, and/or knowledge of other regulatory systems or regulatory domains
