Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

Patrols Virginia Hospital Center facilities and property to maintain order, protect personnel, and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. Enforces Virginia Hospital Center policies and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and employees. Responds to other Security requirements of the VHC campus. Responds to complaints of wrongdoing and prepares incident reports / activity logs.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Experience:

One year of experience as a security officer is preferred.

One year of significant customer service delivery is preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Virginia DCJS Unarmed Security Officer License is to be obtained within six months.

Valid state driver's license is required.

Clean driving record is required.

Other Qualifications

Employees hired prior to the September 1, 2021 job description update (to certification section) will obtain their Virginia DCJS Unarmed Security Officer License within six months of the effective date of the job description version, no later than March 1, 2022.

Visual Acuity: the power to see at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspections of machines, etc. Ability to work in accordance with Hospital Safety Standards.

Working Conditions:

Facilities: Works in adverse physical conditions including high heat, humidity, and moisture. Less than 60% of time may be spent in an air conditioned work area. Including but not limited to working in outdoor weather conditions. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to long hours, changing shifts. May be required to work beyond normal working hours when requested to do so, e.g., overtime, on call. Moderate occupational exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, and/or musculoskeletal injuries. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is needed for instances of exposure to blood, body fluids and infectious processes, and are supplied by the hospital. Involved with patients, family members, co-workers, and visitors under all conditions, e.g., hostile and/or emotionally upset, disoriented or combative.
