Amentum Human Factor Aircraft Systems Engineer in Arlington, Virginia

Description of Duties: The Amentum Arlington, VA office has a 25% Level of Effort Part-Time position available for a highly competent human factor engineer for advanced manned aircraft design, development, and test in support of a DARPA research, development, and test program.

Candidate will serve as the primary support contractor interface, on a daily basis, to DARPA leadership, the performer(s), other integrated product teams (IPTs), and research and development communities across the Government. Candidate will interact with the performer(s) in order to monitor and track system design, development, and test progress, will report status to the Government team, and will identify and aid in the facilitation of mitigation strategies. Applicants must have technical leadership experience and possess superior oral and written communications skills. Candidates should be self-starters capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Candidates will travel 25-50% of time.

You must have excellent organizational skills and act as a team player both within the program office and with other program offices. You must have excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must be proficient in MS Windows applications, including Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Technical and management responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and translating user requirements into specific technology/system research and development objectives.

  • Defining system architectures and supporting subsystem performance requirements; and generating transition agreements.

  • Conducting quantitative analyses of system mission requirements as they pertain to the development of advanced technologies; evaluate alternatives and trade-offs; conduct cost-benefit analyses; and investigate compatibility, interoperability, and integration with existing systems.

  • Supporting program experimentation and testing efforts, including preparation of experiment/test plans; coordination with performers, government agents, sea ranges and test facilities; implementation and inspection of safety requirements within the time frame requested.

  • Developing and preparing documentation and accompanying briefing materials for senior management and stakeholders within DARPA as well as the services and industry.

  • Assisting in the development and transition of technology and systems to the DoD and commercial user community by supporting the activities of on-going and future work and through familiarity with the interaction of the technology/system program and the respective community at large.

  • Performing independent technical assessments and feasibility analyses of new technologies and system designs.

  • Supporting technical interchange meetings and design reviews.

  • Identifying and implementing new program concepts.

  • Providing program management and acquisition support.

  • Authoring program status briefings and technical reports.

Minimum Required Technical Qualifications:

  • MS in science field and at least 25 years of DoD aircraft experience

  • Air Vehicle Human Factor Design

  • Must have an Active Top Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.

  • Experience in DoD-related acquisition, technology research and/or development platform programs

  • Strong classical systems engineering processes and procedures with familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering tools, techniques, and best practices

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Intimate experience w/MS PowerPoint, Excel and Word software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pilot/Vehicle and Operator/Machine Interface; Crew systems and aviation life support; Physiological and ergonomic design standards and criteria; Crew Systems military airworthiness standards and flight clearance processes

  • Must have an Active TS/SCI US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance.

  • DAWIA Level II or higher certification in relevant technical and program management

  • Military and/or DARPA program support experience

  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve program execution issues
