What our team does:

This position is within the Intelligent Systems Works (ISW), which is one of the three laboratories that comprise ATL. We are creating technologies that will accelerate the multi-domain hybrid existence of human and machine intelligence to support DoD and IC missions. By combining key technology R&D pillars – human-machine symbiosis, AI/ML-based algorithm and model development, autonomy adapted to missions and domains, and high assurance solutions – under one group, the ISW designs, develops/prototypes and evaluates solutions supporting future, complex warfighter missions. Some of these missions include BMC2 planning and Course of Action development, Information Ops (sentiment and influence), and Resilience and Assurance in autonomy.

What you will do:

The selected candidate will be a significant R&D technology leader for ISW in the area of trusted AI. The primary focus of the position is to implement ISW strategy by leading technology and R&D funding pursuits, program execution, and solution transfer while simultaneously leading and shaping a team of direct reports to that same end. The candidate will formulate strategy and evaluation including providing guidance to a highly skilled team of technologists for achieving maximum effectiveness in landing, executing, and leveraging internal and external R&D contracts to achieve mission impact.

The selected candidate will:

• Have a strong technical background in one or more of the following: Neuro-Symbolic AI, Formal Methods, Automated Reasoning, and Generative AI.

• Lead a team of direct technologist reports while performing administrative L-code duties as well as identifying and shaping career growth opportunities through training and coordination of project assignments.

• Develop and foster strategy-focused R&D funding opportunities in topics that are relevant to ISW.

• Lead the development of new applied research for both internal and external projects, working in collaboration with LM ATL colleagues and world-class academic researchers, national labs, and other advanced technology organizations.

• Advance the state of the art by developing and demonstrating new technologies in relevant operational environments as team lead and as key contributor to project teams.

• Engage with the wider research community, understand emerging trends in technologies, and create the vision to enable development of discriminating capabilities for LM ATL.

The selected candidate will also have demonstrable experience leading complex R&D projects, and will be a highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial mindset and a record of leading successful proposals and execution of contract R&D (CRAD) with U.S. government agencies and/or commercial organizations.

Basic Qualifications:

• Strong technical background in one or more of the following: Nero-Symbolic AI, Formal Methods, Automated Reasoning, Generative AI.

• Recognized subject matter expert in a field related to ISW research and development thrusts. Disciplines involving autonomy, AI/ML, sentiment and influence, and assurance are of particular interest.

• A minimum of ten years of experience leading proposals and executing advanced technology development programs.

• Successful track record of winning CRAD proposals.

• Experience leading research teams, whether or not they are direct reports.

• Network and professional visibility and relationships at U.S. government Science & Technology organizations, universities, national labs, and other advanced technology organizations.

• Strong oral and written communication skills as evidenced by proposals, published articles and presentations at conferences and seminars.

• Eligibility to obtain U.S. Security Clearance.

Desired Skills:

• Ph.D. degree.

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
