Job Summary

The Accountant III is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all students, faculty and staff. This includes maintaining payroll records, preparing reports and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. They will assist in analyzing transactions, completing accounting entries and account reconciliations. Assist with daily review of timekeeping error reports, address issues with timekeeping records and assist campus with timekeeping inquiries. Assist, process and validate overtime payments. Assist campus community with analysis of salary and benefit related expenses. Work accurately with numerical detail consistently and perform accounting operations legibly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing transactions, completing accounting entries, reconciliation research and journals.

  • Assist with daily review of timekeeping error reports, address issues with timekeeping records and assist campus with timekeeping inquiries.

  • Assist, process and validate overtime payments.

  • Assist campus community with analysis of salary and benefit related expenses.

  • Respond to payroll inquiries timely and accurately.

  • Represent the organization by utilizing effective communication and customer service skills.

  • Provide information and updates on changes and processes to keep customers up to date and help them utilize the TCP (Time Clock Plus) system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other Business related degree or the equivalent experience with a minimum of four (4) or more years accounting experience or the equivalent experience.

  • Professional experience and understanding of payroll laws and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automated time keeping systems and PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Finance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis in Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience working in governmental or higher education accounting.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, including task coordination and decision making.

  • Professional analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be self-starter, who is detail oriented and has the ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks.

  • Applicant must be able to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities and work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to Interpret and apply federal/state regulations and university policies relating to Payroll.

  • Professionally interact with management and all University departments.

  • Strong MS Office experience. (Excel, Word). Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to problem solve and efficiently manage time.
