Position Purpose
We are the Premier Senior Living Community in the Fox Valley!Brewster Village is looking for dedicated and compassionate caregivers who want to work in a team-based environment, where Person Directed Living is our top priority.
Serving as a functional member of the household team under general supervision of Food and Nutrition Services Director, Helping Hands prepares food items for villagers, engages villagers in life enrichment, performs household tasks and maintains sanitation standards in the working area.
This position works 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm - Weekdays and Weekends.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are most critical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Serves villagers meals and snacks.
Carefully reads dining information sheets to assure villagers are being served the correct diet and texture modifications.
Handles food and operates equipment in accordance with safety and sanitary practices and department policy.
Washes and sanitizes wares using power soak and dish machine, cleans and sanitizes work area including household kitchen, counters, and equipment in accordance with department policies and procedures. Performs routine and deep cleaning duties in the household kitchen, dining room and household areas.
Maintains a safe, comfortable, and functional environment by assessing the household for potential hazards, implements practices utilizing appropriate techniques regarding sanitation, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency care.
Promotes empowerment of the team in providing person-directed living by providing leadership and vision to the household and serving as a role model. Participates in team problem solving.
Performs light housekeeping tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting etc. to ensure cleanliness which meets the expectations of the villager and Brewster Village policy.
Changes bed linens, organizes clothes for washing and launders items.
Communicates with villagers and completes necessary Get to Know Me form as it
Assists in monitoring villager mental and physical status and reporting any changes to the Wellness nurse.
Socializes and provides life enrichment to villagers, following their preferences and interests.
Promotes person-directed living, by encouraging villager choice and honoring preferences
Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements
Age 16 or older
One year experience in quantity food preparation desired with a demonstrated knowledge of sanitation principles.
Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities
Required or Preferred Skills
Ability to see person-centered living as an important component in providing villagers a sense of health and well-being.
Knowledge and ability to handle small kitchen appliances and perform moderately-advanced food preparation tasks.
Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate in English with villagers, co-workers, and general public and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrated ability to comply with appropriate sanitation and safety regulations.
Ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
Ability to budget time and schedule work to efficiently complete tasks.
Demonstrated willingness to work out conflicts with others.
Demonstrated sensitivity to the particular challenges villagers face in terms of communicating their needs and preferences.
Experience using a computer system to import and print data, send and receive emails, electronic scheduling and e-learning.
Demonstrates the ability to operate standard household appliances, such as washer/dryer, vacuum, etc.
Ability to demonstrate proper use of cleaning products and equipment.
