    Pay:

    Base Salary $3,791.67 Monthly / $45,500.04 Annually

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    This is professional supervisory work serving as an Environmental Specialist III in performing and coordinating scientific research, ecosystem monitoring, and participating in the development and continuance of resource management activities for a Florida Park Service District.

    As a supervisor will effectively communicate, motivate, train, and evaluate on work performance, and is responsible for time and attendance of subordinates.

    Plans and recommends resource management projects for each park including control burning, exotic species removal, reforestation, plant community restoration, erosion control, pest species control and native wildlife introductions. Provides recommendations, technical and physical assistance in completing projects.

    Supervises, directs, and assists the district environmental staff in the performance of research, data collection, and other field work in parks and provides support to parks as required to attain and sustain restoration and preservation of natural and cultural resources.

    Prepares and updates at least every ten years the Resource Management component of the Unit Management Plan for each park. Conducts resource management evaluations of parks.

    In conjunction with parks, develops inventories of plant and animal species. Supervises the development and implementation of databases to store park resource information such as species lists, natural community changes, prescribed burn results, sea turtle and shorebird nesting’s, exotic species control, etc.

    Designs, develops, and coordinates a system for organizing technical and scientific reports and documents in the district reference library. Serves as Environmental Specialist subject matter expert for the district and provides information as needed to Parks, other district offices and the Bureau of Natural and Cultural Resources.

    Determines, analyzes, and prioritizes research needs for each park in a district. Recommends and coordinates approved research projects in the district to ensure compatibility with park management, sensitivity to resource values and applicability to resource management objectives. Provides technical and physical assistance in completing projects.

    Research impacts of proposed development projects by the Division to ensure that natural/cultural resources will not be adversely affected. Identifies outside encroachments and assesses potential impacts on park property. Represents the Department and the Division at public hearings to present the agency position on environmental issues. Prepares resource assessments for land acquisition projects.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of : natural resource management practices to include prescribed fire, exotic control and coastal management, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences, data collection and analysis principles and procedures. Skill in: communicating effectively verbally and in writing; accurately preparing reports; utilize a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.

    Ability to: collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data, identify and investigate problems and recommend solutions, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, prepare technical reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, work independently, plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs, utilize problem solving techniques, interact with the public, other agencies and internal staff in a tactful and professional manner, supervise and coordinate the work of other employees.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Maintain Valid Driver License

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the physical or natural sciences from an accredited college or university; and two years of verifiable related experience; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, or a total of six years.

    Preferred: Two years of supervisory experience.
