Summary

To provide support to the University of Michigan Health ventricular assist device (VAD) Program to include: data abstraction and quality measures associated with the Joint Commission standards for disease-specific care, managing the INTERMACS database/registry with regard to study and patient data, collaborate with other VAD centers to identify risk factors/long term outcomes associated with this patient population, project management to include Lean processes in daily work and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities*

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

VAD Program Joint Commission Disease Specific Care Accreditation Coordination and Quality Management:

  • The Joint Commission (TJC) Disease Specific Certification (DSC) content expert.

  • Responsible for interpretation of DSC standards.

  • Guideline management and responsible for the creation of action plans and the implementation of performance initiatives to ensure compliance with TJC standards.

  • DSC review preparation/readiness.

  • Collaborate with other DSC programs for shared mentoring/implementation.

  • Manages the dissemination of DSC information to the multidisciplinary team for transparency and to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Leads multidisciplinary work group meetings to solve system problems collaboratively.

  • Manages the abstraction, collection, interpretation, report preparation, and presentation of program related data for program performance measures as well as overall quality indicators for program performance and improvement.

  • Maintains DSC performance measure (PM) data and PM Plan.

  • Reports LVAD DSC data submissions directly to TJC on a quarterly and annual basis.

INTERMACS Database:

  • Collect and manage data for a nationally mandated registry data including the abstraction, interpretation and reporting of required data elements.

  • Manage Contract, Agreements, & Quality Reports, Internal/External Audits.

  • Functional supervision over work study students who assist with data collection.

  • Conduct internal audits to ensure accuracy of data abstraction and data entry.

  • Ensure follow up appointment and 6-minute hall-walks align with Intermacs windows.

University of Michigan VAD Database:

  • Maintain UM VAD database to house all VAD data used for QI & research / trial purposes.

  • Management of data collection, data entry, and data quality as well as well creating site specific reports for the program.

VAD Quality Improvement Facilitator/Project Management:

  • Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to identify opportunities to improve the cost and quality of care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Works with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to develop strategies to improve performance.

  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of measurement and analysis to the completion of complex assignments.

  • Implement Lean in Every Day Work for the VAD team ? facilitate implementation of Everyday Lean Ideas.

  • VAD Program Lean Facilitator/Champion and facilitate lean activity in the program including work redesign, process mapping and value stream mapping.

Research Responsibilities:

  • Manage IRB annual touchpoint correspondence and listing of study team members.

  • Collaborate with the research study team to complete quality of life and functional assessments.

Supervision Received

  • Dual supervision is received from theVAD Program Managerand the Cardiac Surgery Clinical Information Analyst Manager.

Supervision Exercised

  • Functional supervision exercised over students assisting with data collection and entry.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.

  • Experience with implementing LEAN in Every Day Work or equivalent process improvement experience.

  • Demonstrated computer skills including: Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner.

  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.

  • Demonstrated high level of motivation to learn and to participate in activities to improve patient care.

  • Must reflect a professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Senior: Minimum 5 years of experience in analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes, and costs of care.

Intermediate: Minimum 3 years of experience in analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes, and costs of care.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Registered Nurse with minimum of 3 to 5 years nursing experience in cardiovascular related field.

  • Recent experience in cardiovascular disease/cardiac surgery.

  • Recent experience working with regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday

40 hours/week

Background Screening
