Summary

As the Student Life Program Manager, you will work with the UMSI Student Life Team and report to the Senior Assistant Director of Student Life. You will manage all aspects of student organizations and student leadership development at UMSI. Student leadership and student organization membership are key components of student development and an important addition to student's curricular experiences. A strong student life community is a direct result of a solid student organization structure that supports student-led initiatives and valuable student feedback.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage and advise all operational aspects for student organizations at UMSI including the creation of new student organizations, event planning, budgeting, intergroup conflict resolution support, assistance with fundraising, advising of student organization structure, student organization recruitment, managing of SSO compliance, and membership data collection.

  • Develop and manage leadership opportunities for UMSI students including student organization training, the UMSI Student Leadership Retreat, and partnering with the DEI Office to provide a new DEI Student Leadership program to support leadership development of UMSI students with a passion for activism and advocacy.

  • Build and maintain relationships with other University, Student Life, and Student Leadership units, including the Student Organization Wisdom Circle and the Michigan Leadership Collaborative.

  • Provide support for Student Life programming including orientation, commencement and other student life activities. Develop and analyze the effectiveness of ongoing programs through organized and intentional assessment; design and lead new extra- and co-curricular projects.

  • Supervise temporary and student staff.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

  • Knowledge of current higher education topics and trends including student development theory.

  • Efficient and effective program management skills and ability to concentrate on multiple important priorities.

  • At least three years of successful past experience in supporting programs, events, and activities in a related setting, including demonstrated experience with process improvement and developing new initiatives.

  • Ability to partner and work collaboratively with teams and build effective professional partnerships with strong ability to communicate clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences, including students, staff, and faculty.

Work Schedule

Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

Work Locations

May require travel to multiple locations on and off campus. Your main office workspace is located at 333 Maynard Street. Hybrid work is possible and is in accordance with UMSI Remote Work Policy and with supervisor approval. Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending on our needs.

This position is responsible for protecting data and information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; and following applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files and release of data internally or externally to the University of Michigan.
