Summary

The Department of Statistics in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is seeking an experienced professional to be part of an energetic team focused on student services, particularly aiming to improve the offerings for our graduate students. The perfect fit for this position will be working closely with graduate program directors and program coordinators to ensure successful employment outcomes for our students and providing a wide array of professional services. This position requires a person who can represent and champion the school's values through multiple channels, conducting themselves independently, and displaying superior judgment skills during engagements with our internal community and outside collaborators.

Responsibilities*

Strategic Vision and Partnerships:

  • Formulate and implement a strategic vision for the career services of MAS/MDS programs.

  • Establish and enhance partnerships with key industry players and organizations aligned with the program's focus areas.

  • Actively extend the program's network by connecting with professionals in tech, finance, risk management, and related business sectors.

Database and Program Design:

  • Oversee the design and upkeep of a comprehensive career services database.

  • Regularly assess the specific career service needs of the students within MAS/MDS programs.

  • Define and track job placement metrics to evaluate and report on the success of career services initiatives.

Career Counseling and Development:

  • Guide students through the job and internship search processes, offering professional skills enhancement advice.

  • Assist with resume writing and review, interview preparation, networking, and strategies for navigating language barriers.

  • Develop and refresh program marketing materials, develop and manage program website content, and leverage social media platforms.

  • Engage in college and external undergraduate recruitment events to attract a varied and talented cohort of new students.

Relationship Building and Event Coordination:

  • Foster connections with graduates to integrate them into department-hosted career events for current students.

  • Coordinate annual graduate career fair and additional career-related activities.

Job Placement and Recruitment:

  • Broker job and internship arrangements, creating opportunities for student engagement with the industry.

  • Establish and oversee new job recruitment channels directly leading to student employment.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent and more than four years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in multitasking, initiative in creative problem-solving, and adaptability.

  • Proven ability to network and form productive professional relationships.

  • Demonstrated experience in building the tools and databases required for evidence-based decision-making.

  • Expertise with computers and database/statistical software, and effectively integrating technology into service delivery.

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to staff and a diverse student body.

  • Desire to work in an office that highly values quality customer service, team orientation, and intentional planning.

  • Ability to achieve results while contributing to the larger team.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a critical team member.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Proven ability to handle detailed and confidential information accurately and timely.

  • Professional demeanor and presentation are required.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with FERPA and other government policies related to higher government.

  • Previous experience in employer relations, alumni relations, career services, or related fields.
