Job Summary

ThePsychological Clinic (https://mari.umich.edu/psych-clinic) at the University of Michigan is excited to offer two full-time, 12-month Post-MSW Graduate Fellowships (Adult Mental Health Services). This is an advanced clinical training program beginning February 3, 2025 and ending February 2, 2026 with an opportunity to extend for a second year. The mission of this Post-MSW graduate training program is to advance practice competency, professionalism, and leadership in the field of clinical social work and is designed for a clinical social worker with a limited license (LLMSW) in the State of Michigan.

Who We Are

The Psychological (Psych) Clinic is a multidisciplinary, multitheoretical, and training-focused outpatient mental health clinic serving adults in the community with a senior staff of social workers and psychologists, clinical trainees in both disciplines, and a psychiatrist. Psych Clinic (PC) is part of the Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI), whose primary mission is to strengthen community wellness through individualized, innovative, and results-oriented mental health and language clinical services, while also educating the community about mental health, treating clients of all ages and backgrounds, and training the next generation of practitioners.

Our supervisory staff at PC have a range of areas of expertise including but not limited to:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches

  • Anxiety and Mood Disorders

  • Couples Therapy

  • Health Psychology

  • Clinical Supervision

Responsibilities*

Our fellowships give MSW graduates further training and experience in evidence-based intervention with adults (aged 18+) as they prepare for licensure. Fellows provide direct clinical service with supervision from expert clinicians. They also participate in a core curriculum of seminars and clinical conferences, consult with other professionals, and have the opportunity to engage in community outreach. Fellows receive training in evidence-based psychotherapy interventions.

Social work fellows will gain supervised experience with providing initial mental health screenings, diagnostic assessments, individual psychotherapy (with options for group and couples therapy), and risk assessment and management. Fully licensed clinical social workers will primarily supervise social work fellows, with additional supervision provided by licensed psychologists. The fellow will have opportunities to supervise social work students, engage in clinical teaching as a part of a training plan, and develop case conceptualization, treatment planning, and clinical intervention skills, which tailor evidence-based clinical practice to individuals based on unique identities, histories, and experiences of the world. Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and professional development are infused throughout the fellowship experience.

Required Qualifications*

The Psych Clinic is interested in applicants who have direct clinical experience using evidence-based interventions, in person and via telehealth, with adults from diverse backgrounds.

Eligible applicants must have satisfactorily completed an accredited Social Work Master's Program and hold a Limited License in Social Work in the State of Michigan (LLMSW).
