Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I for Slavic discussion sections or course support at a 33.33% or 66.66% effort for the Fall 2024 term, August 26-December 31, 2024. The candidate must be qualified and prepared to teach discussion sections for faculty-led lecturers on Central European Cinema or provide course support in a course on Czech Cinema, as well as teaching writing, and topics of race and ethnicity to undergraduate students.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities will include teaching up to two discussion sections of Slavic 312 (Central European Cinema) or course support in a course on Czech 315 (Czech Cinema). In addition to teaching, the chosen candidate would be expected to evaluate and offer advice for improvement on three papers and two rewrites of papers. The lecturer will also be required to hold office hours on campus weekly for at least 2 hours, attend weekly meetings with the course's primary instructor, and maintain regular contact with students through email. All meetings and teaching are in-person.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for this position include experience and a record of teaching excellence in writing, literature or film studies at the undergraduate level, the ability to work with a diverse student body and with very diverse assignments, compatible availability with the lectures, screenings and discussion sections and an interest in the development and application of innovative instructional methods.

M.A in Slavic Studies, Writing, Literature, Film or Comparative Literature is required, a Ph.D. in one of these fields is highly preferred.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
