Job Summary

The Department of Middle East Studies and the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor invites applications for a full-time (100%) lecturer position in Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic Languages beginning January 8, 2025. This is a benefits-eligible position.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching one section of first-year Biblical Hebrew, one section of first-year Syriac or other Aramaic dialect, and an upper level reading course in one of these target languages.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants should have demonstrated proficiency in Biblical Hebrew, Syriac, and English. We also welcome applicants with knowledge of other Aramaic dialects, including imperial Aramaic, Jewish Babylonian Aramaic, or Neo-Aramaic, as well as those with an understanding of synchronic and diachronic linguistics. Minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field is required. Language of instruction will be English.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with teaching an ancient language at the post-secondary level is preferred.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
