Summary

The School of Information seeks a Finance Specialist Intermediate to perform a wide range of professional financial duties. We are searching for a highly responsible, detail-oriented, proactive Financial Specialist Intermediate to provide exceptional service as an essential team member. The Finance Specialist Intermediate will report to the Director of Budget and Finance and will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in the School of Information. The Financial Specialist Intermediate will also liaise with University Procurement and other central offices. This position will have primary responsibility for procurement for the School.

This position will also provide support for faculty and staff through financial reporting, forecasting, and projections.

Responsibilities*

Procurement duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as primary procurement resource for the School adhering to U-M and School policies and procedures.

  • Primary responsibility for PeoplePay process, including requesting communication with payees to get the necessary information. Evaluate requests to determine what method of payment for services is appropriate.

  • Facilitate contract creation and gather required information. Work with University Procurement to obtain necessary signatures. Create requisitions/purchase orders for payment of invoices.

  • Work with faculty, staff, students, and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve purchasing issues and follow purchasing requests through to completion

  • Review/approve travel and expense reports, purchasing card (P-Card) reports, and Non-PO requests.

Financial activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform financial analysis and prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports.

  • Assist faculty and staff with monitoring spending and providing data as needed.

  • Process journal entries, request fund transfers, initiate budget changes and request new chartfields/shortcodes when appropriate.

  • Extract data using Business Objects, Tableau, and other tools. Interpret financial, HR, payroll, and student data, and analyze results using best practices.

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency and knowledge of procurement processes and guidelines.

  • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate School and university guidelines and policies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively as part of a team.

  • Advanced knowledge of, and demonstrated proficiency in, Excel, including the use of advanced formulas, pivot tables, charts, graphs, and filtering.

Associate Level

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or equivalent combination of education and one year of experience.

  • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate School and university guidelines and policies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively as part of a team.

  • Some knowledge of, and demonstrated proficiency in, Excel, including the use of advanced formulas, pivot tables, charts, graphs, and filtering.

Work Schedule

Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required.

Work Locations

May require travel to multiple locations on and off campus. Your main office workspace is located in our 309 Maynard building. Hybrid work is possible and is in accordance

with the UMSI Remote Work Policy and with supervisor approval. Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending on our needs.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The minimum starting salary at the Associate level is $50,000. At the Intermediate level, the minimum starting salary is $57,000. The final salary will be based on several factors, such as the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, and skills for the position.
