Job Summary

Within our supportive and talented analytics division, the Continuous Improvement Analytics Specialist utilizes advanced analytical skills to gather, analyze, and interpret data, identifying opportunities to increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes for assigned projects. This role involves leading and supporting a small team of analysts who deliver analytics, reporting, and data interpretation to physicians, clinicians, administrators, and project teams. The specialist oversees the team in activities such as developing project-specific datasets, assessing clinical practice patterns, and creating meaningful measures of performance and improvement. They also lead the creation of dashboards and reports, conduct statistical analyses of performance data, and collaborate with Quality Analytics leadership and colleagues to prioritize and deliver timely results. The specialist fosters a collaborative and enjoyable work environment for team members and independently oversees projects with minimal supervision, guiding the team to successful outcomes.

Responsibilities*

Analytics: (40%)

  • Conduct the analysis and reporting of clinical and operational data for UMHS including:

  • Evaluating performance, utilization,quality of care and patient safety measures.

  • Conducting analyses on cost performance and operational efficiency to facilitate assessment of care practice patterns and medical and disease management.

  • Collaborating with Continuous Improvement project teams to produce metrics to assess and improve performance in assigned projects.

  • Applies statistical modeling methods to facilitate data interpretation, change detection and facilitate causal inference.

  • Validation of data quality and reasonableness in reports and/or analyses of health services prior to external distribution.

  • Designing reportformats and graphical presentations of dataintended for audiences ranging from senior leaders to front line clinicians.

  • Delivering written, graphical, and/or verbal presentations of provider, product, program, and service specific data to internal staff, project teams, UMHS leaders, committees, and other constituencies.

  • Possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge of health care, clinical information, disease processes, measurement and analysis to the completion of complex assignments.

  • Produce quality measurement results by creating and applying complex algorithms to data which are extracted and integrated across multiple data sources.

  • Work with database and business systems analysts to plan and implement the data management and analysis of major new products and programs.

  • Translate clinical, operational and project specific needs into analytical solutions.

  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments to address problems with data quality and availability.

  • Maintain documentation and reference material of measurement methods and data sources for analytics maintenance and continuity.

  • Adheres to all data quality and data security guidelines and policies.

Staff Management (30%)

  • Supervise a small analytics team focused on supporting continuous improvement projects.

  • Developnew and junior staff through coaching,mentoring and training on data analysis, data management and related processes.

  • Lead the hiring, performance evaluation, and onboarding for analytic staff on their team

  • Work with Quality Analytics and Continuous Improvement leadership to evaluate, prioritize, support, and direct project work for analysts in the group.

  • Create strategies to improve the effectiveness and value of team?s analytic tools and work.

  • Create a supportive and enjoyable work environment for team members.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert when evaluating and planning new and existing work for team members.

  • Contribute to department-wide culture and engagement improvement efforts.

Project Leadership: (20%)

  • Develop timelines and resource plans, define requirements, identify risks, create project documentation, report status to team and stakeholders, track and escalate issues.

  • Coordinate with other departments and central IT staff to determine timing of development efforts and key milestones for dependences outside of team.

  • Manage and lead cross-functional teams and projects as assigned.

  • Identify opportunities to standardize processes and facilitate transitions from ad-hoc systems to a production environment.

  • Work with team members to identify and automate systems that deliver routine and consistent performance information.

  • Maintain communication with technical groups inside and outside the department and with the team create transition plans to adapt to organizational infrastructure changes.

  • Assign and prioritize new work to ensure deliverables meet deadline and quality commitments.

Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in a data or technical field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Economics or similar).

  • At least 10 years of experience in analyzing and interpreting data related to process, clinical outcomes and costs of care, as well as progressively responsible health care experience, including some management responsibilities.

  • Expertise in analysis and reporting of healthcare and performance improvement data.

  • Moderate to strong statistical capabilities in areas of hypothesis testing, regression, change detection and/or simulation modeling.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of analytic and reporting tools such as SAS, Python, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Power BI and/or related tools.

  • Well-developed skills using SQL and relational database query tools.

  • Experience with Data Warehousing and distributed data systems.

  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment.

  • Customer service skills and commitment to excellent customer service.

  • Experience collecting business requirements from customers and transforming the requirements into datasets, reports, dashboards and analyses.

  • Ability to independently establish objectives, project plans and milestone goals.

  • Good verbal, written and visual presentation skills.

  • Ability to anticipate requests and needs in advance and plan accordingly.

  • Negotiating and consensus building abilities.

  • Existing EPIC Clarity or Caboodle proficiency or ability to gain proficiency through training early in the role.
