Summary
The Marsal Family School of Education is looking for an Assistant Director of Annual Giving to join our development and alumni relations team. We seek someone with enthusiasm, creativity, and a love for education to work with our team to support Marsal's fundraising efforts by overseeing a comprehensive annual giving plan, including direct mail, email, and telefund solicitations, and serving as the team lead for leadership annual giving, which includes prospect qualification and solicitation of gifts in the $5,000 - $25,000 range. This position reports to the Associate Director of Development.
Responsibilities*
Manage Annual Giving Strategies (45%) . Develop and implement a strategic annual giving plan focused on acquiring, retaining, and upgrading annual donors, resulting in increased giving to Marsal's annual fund and other funds prioritized by Marsal leadership. This includes:
Partnering with the office of University Annual Giving to enact an annual giving plan, including direct mail and email solicitations (approximately six per year) and Telefund student appeals.
Conceiving and implementing additional solicitations handled internally by Marsal to acquire new donors and retain current and lapsed donors.
Creating and implementing a Marsal-specific strategy for giving days, including Giving Tuesday and Giving Blueday.
Creating and implementing plans to inspire giving via social media and other online platforms.
Creating and implementing strategies to inspire philanthropy among students and recent alumni
Exploring creative ways of growing Marsal's annual giving program such as, for example, the creation of faculty/staff/retiree giving circles, alumni milestone giving, and/or parent giving programs.
Reporting on progress toward annual giving goals.
Managing fundraising website content to ensure all giving pages are relevant and up to date.
Manage Leadership Annual Giving Strategies (40%) . Solicit leadership-level annual gifts ($5,000 to $25,000) to Marsal and identify and qualify future major gift prospects.
Analyze data to identify Marsal alumni and other donor prospects with the perceived potential to make leadership-level annual gifts.
Discover and qualify current/prospective donors via visits (in-person, video, or phone), and solicit them for support.
Help build Marsal's major giving pipeline by qualifying future major giving prospects and making referrals to major gift officers, as appropriate.
Conduct personal outreach to current and lapsed annual donors to renew/increase their annual gifts.
Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Stewardship and Alumni Relations to create stewardship processes for leadership annual gift donors.
Oversee Data Generation & Integrity (10%)
- Create and run reports and assemble data necessary to make informed decisions regarding alumni and donor engagement and strategy.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree
2+ years of professional experience in fundraising, alumni outreach, or other related fields
Demonstrated creativity in developing successful annual giving campaigns
Experience with database management and reporting
Experience writing and copy editing, with demonstrated commitment to attention to detail
Demonstrated strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple priorities, work at high standards, and meet deadlines
Experience working and collaborating with a variety of partners
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Desired Qualifications*
Understands the role of social media and other digital tools in fundraising
Understands the role of leadership annual giving in a comprehensive fundraising plan, and how to analyze data to identify prospects for this.
Is familiar with the work of the Marsal Family School of Education and the profession of education in order to promote it to and excite potential donors.
Experience with U-M's Development and Alumni Relations Tool (DART) and the Business Objects Data Warehouse.
Work Locations
This is a hybrid position, requiring one or more days per week onsite, with the remaining time remote and/or on the road as we work to expand our donor base across the state.
