GCI Communication Corp Senior Payroll Specialist in Anchorage, Alaska
GCI's Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll for all employees. Responsible for leveraging third-party payroll, timekeeping, and Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) to maintain payroll integrity and compliance. Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:
Payroll Administration:
Interface effectively with payroll, eTime, and HRIS systems to facilitate smooth payroll operations.
Review and audit eTime reporting to ensure accurate and complete time submissions from all employees.
Edit employee time profiles and schedules as needed to ensure accurate payroll processing.
Data Preparation & Submission:
Prepare and verify pay data information for submission to third-party payroll vendors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established deadlines.
Review and respond to inquiries from third-party vendors regarding payroll processing, providing necessary documentation and clarification as required.
Termination & Vendor Processing:
Process termination actions accurately and promptly, ensuring all final payments and deductions are correctly applied.
Complete check requests and other vendor templates to facilitate timely payment processing.
Issue Resolution:
- Proactively resolve payroll-related issues in a timely manner, utilizing problem-solving skills to identify root causes and implement solutions.
Confidentiality & Compliance:
Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information and payroll data.
Ensure compliance with payroll audit controls and best practices, successfully meeting key audit requirements.

Additional Job Requirements:
This is an advanced-level position that requires a high degree of proficiency across all service areas, coupled with specialized knowledge in payroll processes. The Payroll Specialist must be capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision, effectively addressing complex issues and tasks while reserving only the most challenging matters for escalation to higher-level staff or supervisors. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of payroll operations, enabling the specialist to train and mentor junior staff members. Additionally, the individual will serve as a backup to the Payroll Manager as needed, ensuring continuity in payroll services. The specialist will manage moderately complex problems, employing sound judgment in analyzing and resolving issues. They should demonstrate the ability to work independently on routine assignments, requiring minimal oversight while consistently completing tasks on time and exercising discretion in decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of six (6) years of increasingly responsible Payroll or Accounting experience in a fast paced, high-volume environment or related field. To include: *
One (1) year 401(k) administration, funding, reporting, and audit experience.
Preferred:
Associate degree in accounting or related discipline.
Experience with ADP, ADP Vantage, eTime, Kronos and HRIS software.
Telecommunications experience.
Other relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.
Fundamental Payroll Certification
Certified Payroll Professional certification
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
This position may require access to reliable transportation for occasional travel between retail store locations, offices, worksites, or other locations as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage.
Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.
Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.
Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.
Available to work additional time on weekends, holidays, before or after normal work hours when necessary.
