Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Example of Duties
This position is responsible for the clerical and administrative support of the community health nursing program (CHN). Primary duties include registering clients in the Electronic Health Records (EHR), checking out clients, accepting payment for services, scheduling client appointments, confirming client appointments, following up with clients on missed or canceled appointments and supporting the overall running of the CHN program. Additional duties may include but are not limited to clerical work such as copying, scanning, faxing, printing, filling envelopes, and arranging clinic schedules. The position requires a high degree of autonomy in performing daily duties of handling protected health information (PHI) for our clients. It is the positions responsibility to maintain accurate medical records for each client by verifying accuracy of the information/ data collected and entered into the electronic medical records starting with the registration provided, which requires knowledge and understanding of medical coding for completed clinic visits. Cash handling and reconciliation skills of end-of-day cash drawer reports require the individual to have knowledge of basic accounting practices. The position monitors data entry for accuracy and quality assurance. Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and (18) eighteen months of experience in office clerical work.
Must have the ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM or better. - Note: current (within the past (1) year) documented typing speed ability of 35 WPM MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered. Documentation or certification results must clearly indicate the applicant's name and date.
Preferences:
Front office work experience preferred.
Experience with cash management, insurance verification, and acknowledgment of HIPAA standards.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
In order to be considered, proof of documented typing speed ability of 35 WPM MUST be attached to the application. The documentation or certification must contain the applicant's name, the type of test taken, the score obtained, and be dated within the past 365 days of the date the application was submitted.
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
An individual currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
