NANA Regional Corporation Legal Assistant NANA - Hybrid Office Schedule! in Anchorage, Alaska

Job Description

Reporting to the Paralegal Director, the legal assistant is responsible for assisting the legal department in the delivery of legal services by conducting research, drafting legal documents, managing case files, and providing administrative support. They play a key role in ensuring that legal processes run smoothly and efficiently. The legal assistant is essential in helping the legal department provide efficient legal services, and their role is crucial in supporting attorneys and maintaining the integrity of the legal process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain and manage complete and accurate corporate records for NRC. Manage and maintain a system for organizing, storing, and retrieving NRC and subsidiary corporate records.

  • Prepare and file all required corporate filings. Assist subsidiary companies’ with corporate filings as requested.

  • Assist with preparing the NRC proxy statement and assist in other annual meeting related matters, including the board election process.

  • Provide litigation and investigation support, including document hold and document production support.

  • Perform legal research, namely Alaska statutory research.

  • Organize and manage document collection, execution, and delivery for closing transactions. Organize closing books and files.

  • Assist in responding to discovery requests, including collection, review, stamping, organizing, and indexing documents.

  • May perform factual and investigative research, compile documentation from various sources, analyze and summarize information collected.

  • Assist in preparing and submitting required state filings for businesses including but not limited to biennial reports, business license applications/renewals, and trademark filings.

  • Assist in NRC Board Meeting preparation with the Board Support Team.

  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of corporate information and attorney-client privilege.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with grade point average sufficient for enrollment in University of Alaska, Anchorage Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies program.

  • OR minimum 2-year degree, Associate of Arts degree with paralegal certificate.

  • If no paralegal certificate, must enroll in and Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies program within the first year of employment and successfully complete the program in a reasonable amount of time.

  • Two years responsible experience as a legal secretary or related administrative experience in a corporate setting.

  • Familiarity with Alaska Native Corporations preferred.

  • Legal Knowledge: Proficiency in legal terminology, procedures, and principles.

  • Research Skills: Ability to conduct legal research, use research tools, and analyze findings.Ability to memorize important Alaska statutory provisions.

  • Writing Skills: Strong written communication skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence.

  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.Must be able to manage and meet deadlines.

  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.

  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, and colleagues.

  • Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with legal software, document management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ethical Conduct: Adherence to ethical standards and client confidentiality.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze legal issues and assist attorneys in developing solutions.

  • Teamwork: Collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff as part of a legal team.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Some travel, including travel to rural Alaska and the NANA Region, may be required.
