THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Region Director of Philanthropy directs the major gift (including planned gift) and grants programs across all Alaskan ministries. Develops and manages activities across all Alaskan ministries that will directly result in prospect identification, engagement, and successful solicitations.

The Director guides major giving/grants donor engagement strategies and maintains a portfolio of donors. The Director participates in the management of relevant board committees involving caregivers and volunteer leaders as appropriate. The Director cultivates caregiver and volunteer leadership support and utilizes their expertise to increase major giving to the Region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, provides strategic leadership of the major gift, planned gift, and internal and external grants programs for the Region.

  • With support from the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, develops single and multi-year fundraising targets.

  • Prepares an annual major gift/grants plan to achieve revenue targets in consultation with Foundation colleagues, with an emphasis on increasing major giving to the Foundation and ensures the quality and quantity of major gift and grants activity in the Region.

  • Using sophisticated fundraising methodologies, reports and measurements, ensures that prospects capable of major gifts are cultivated, solicited and stewarded in a meaningful, appropriate, and deliberate manner.

  • Provides support and leadership to ensure the highest level of productivity for major gift and grants officers, including recruitment, hiring, evaluating, training, and coaching, and providing a structure for collaborative, consistent, and supportive donor development as a team.

  • Ensures that all major gift and grant materials, proposals and applications are of the highest quality, effective, share a consistent message, and appropriate to the donor or funder.

  • Builds and manages structures that ensure individualized, meaningful and appropriate stewardship for major donors, foundations and grant makers.

  • Monitors and maximizes major donor retention.

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of major gift and grants prospects with emphasis on prospects who require a multi-discipline approach.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Nonprofit, or other related major.

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Nonprofit, or other related major (preferred)

  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) (preferred)

  • 7 years of fundraising development work experience which includes successful major gift and/or grants experience, successfully securing and managing individual gifts and grants of $1 million plus.

  • 5 years of employee management experience including success leading professionals, support staff, and volunteers to achieve short- and long-term professional goals

  • Experience in health care philanthropy (preferred)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic Human Resources principles and practices

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully drive results

  • Demonstrated skill as a leader among leaders

  • Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence groups and individuals to support an organization's agenda with respect to colleagues, team members, volunteer leadership and other stakeholders

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the complexity of the volunteer/professional relationship and the ability to successfully manage those relationships in a warm and professional manner.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, and the ability to effective problem solve and make decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • High level working knowledge of Microsoft 365 software tools, such as Word, Excel, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
