Job Summary

The College of Nursing is seeking a full-time 12-month Graduate Clinical Placement Services Manager. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and in collaboration with program directors, this staff member will recruit new clinical placement locations and preceptors as well as maintain existing relationships for our nursing students who are both local and located nationally. They will work with the College of Nursing faculty and other departments within the campus to promote opportunities for inter-professional education.

This position requires a dynamic response to a constantly changing work environment. This position requires a history of successful recruitment, excellent communication skills, general knowledge of healthcare systems, as well as administrative/clerical skills.

Essential Functions

Clinical Placement

  • Provides high-level administrative and clinical support to assigned programs for student clinical placements, including assisting students in locating clinical placement sites and coordinating with the Affiliation Agreement Manager to secure/update clinical site agreements.

  • Evaluates clinical placement sites, including on-site evaluation as needed, and periodic site reviews. Provides training, evaluation, and support for preceptors. Creates and Maintains student/preceptor policies and protocols necessary for graduate student placements. Ensures students meet clinical pre-requisites, including all health clearance information, background checks, and drug testing. Recruits new preceptors and develops retention strategies for existing preceptors.

  • Assesses clinical sites according to requirements to be sure that they are sufficient, appropriate, and available to achieve the program’s mission, goals, and expected outcomes.

  • Creates and maintains the graduate placement quality assurance policy and continual quality improvement process. Develops procedures to maximize the return rate of clinical evaluation from students, preceptors, contract faculty, and clinical placement sites/managers, etc.

    Services for the Achievement of College Goals

  • Participates as an active member of various College committees.

  • Assists with representing the college at orientation, registration, and graduation and graduating students.

  • Initiates the recommendations for additional resources and changes according to college needs.

  • Participates in the prospective nursing student recruitment activities.

  • Engages in activities that advance the mission and goals of the college and university.

  • Participates in credentialing processes at the college of nursing.

    Student/Preceptor Support

  • Communicates directly with students, preceptors, and faculty to provide comprehensive management of graduate clinical placements and foster lasting preceptor relationships with the College. This includes reviewing credentialing reports, processing student-preceptor arrangement requests, creating student and preceptor accounts for clinical tracking, coordinating student and preceptor placement instructions, and providing support to train, assist, or troubleshoot where appropriate, and maintaining clinical placement site and clinical preceptor database.     Staff Supervision

  • Provides supervision for the credentialing coordinator(s) and works collaboratively with the faculty undergraduate placement coordinator.

    Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Associates Degree.

  • Three (3) years of recruitment experience.

  • Experience with the outpatient/healthcare community or academic nursing.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, and staff both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to use an online teaching platform and basic IT applications.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Must maintain professional development annually.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Bachelor's Degree.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Typical Office environment. Shared office accommodation and a laptop computer will be provided.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

  • This position is located on our Amherst campus, this role may include some nights and weekends.
