Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University (ISU), invites applications for the position of a full-time (nine-month) non-tenure eligible teaching faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate or full. Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in mechanical engineering topics, carry out effective instruction in undergraduate mechanical engineering courses, including lecture and laboratory courses based on department needs, freshman courses, curriculum coordination, and other responsibilities related to the university’s teaching mission, such as committee work or mentoring of undergraduate students. Experience with mechanical design and manufacturing processes are of particular interest.

The position is expected to begin on 8/16/2024. This position will be hired as a 1 – 3 year term with the possibility of renewal based on experience and rank of hire.

Appointments at the rank of Associate Professor are available for candidates having commensurate teaching and/or industrial experience, proficiency and leadership.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Assistant Teaching Professor:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related discipline and 5 years of relevant work experienceOR

  • Masters degree in engineering or related discipline and 3 years of relevant work experienceOR

  • Doctoral degree in engineering or related discipline

  • Associate Teaching Professor: Record of teaching experience AND one of the following:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related discipline and 10 years of relevant work experienceOR

  • Masters Degree in engineering or related discipline and 8 years of relevant work experience.

  • Teaching Professor: Record of teaching experience AND one of the following:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related discipline and 15 years of relevant work experienceOR

  • Masters Degree in engineering or related discipline and 13 years of relevant work experience.OR

  • Doctoral degree in engineering or related discipline and 10 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred qualifications at all ranks:

  • Experience with mechanical design and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience teaching mechanical engineering or engineering courses at the university level.
