Required Minimum Qualifications:• One year experience as a mail clerk or in position comparable thereto; or Any combination of post high school clerical training or clerical experience which totals two years.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a production environment, ideally within the printing industry.

Experience in mailing or postal environment, preferably with bulk mail service.

Experience operating equipment, ideally related to print finishing or bindery.

Experience working in higher education.

If so, Printing Services at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Mail Center Coordinator position!

This position works within the finishing and bindery area of Printing Services, where equipment operation duties often overlap with other finishing and bindery operators. This individual will prepare mail lists, run inserting and addressing equipment, and sort and prepare finished materials to meet US postal specifications. The vast majority of mail is out-going only, mail is not received at this facility at this time.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Process address lists for outgoing bulk mail.

• Prepare and submit all necessary reports and documents related to the postal process.

• Accurately maintain records related to jobs and postage documentation.

• Manage and monitor postage funds in various accounts, along with reconciling supplier invoices.

• Set-up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all equipment related to mail, along with assisting in print finishing and bindery duties as needed.

• Manage all day-to-day aspects of the mail center.

• Coordinate with external postal and shipping service providers, including review and input on related contracts.

• Consult with customers on postal and shipping services such as recommending the most cost-efficient services, explaining shipping/mailing policies and procedures, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of institutional shipping and receiving procedures.

• Knowledge of postal regulations and reference sources.

• Skill in the operation of postal equipment such as scales and related machinery.

• Skill in using personal computers and online systems to access and verify data.

• Ability to convey oral and written instructions.

• Ability to recognize errors and check with appropriate source for clarification of problems.

• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public.

• Ability to perform arithmetic computations.

• Ability to collect data, keep accurate records, and prepare reports.

• Ability to lead, train, and motivate employees.

The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is comfortable standing for extended periods.

Hours are typically Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, with overtime required on an as-needed basis. Hours and schedule are subject to change, depending on the season and workload.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
