If so, Iowa State University is currently seeking candidates for a Food Business Extension Specialist to join the Farm, Food and Enterprise Development team in Extension and Outreach! The mission of the Farm, Food and Enterprise Development team is to support value-added agriculture enterprises, businesses, and regional food systems through research, education, and community engagement.

The Food Business Extension Specialist, which will be classified as an Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Specialist II, will work directly with food entrepreneurs across Iowa to provide technical assistance on various needs.

In addition to individual technical assistance, this individual will:

  • Collaborate with co-workers on researching and writing for projects such as industry reports, feasibility studies, business transitions, etc.

  • Work on business development projects within a team.

  • Develop and conduct presentations on business development as needed.

  • Build relationships with economic development entities and partners throughout Iowa.

This individual will assist clients by developing and analyzing financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flows, and sources and uses of funds. They will also help clients with analyzing their business plans to improve overall efficiency, scale, and profitability.

The successful candidate will bring experience in business plans, financial analysis, marketing, and technical assistance to this role. The candidate will also ideally bring an understanding of food business development to the position.

This is a two year, fixed term position with the opportunity for renewal.

Local travel mostly within the state of Iowa will be required in this role.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
