Job Title: Fabricator
Job Description
As a Fabricator, you will be responsible for performing complex welding assignments, setting up and operating various welding equipment, and applying safety procedures. You will be expected to independently handle critical and complex fitting and welding assignments, utilizing shop mathematics for layouts and planning. Quality checks and the use of various hand and power tools are integral parts of the role. You will also need to operate trucks, forklifts, and boom lifts as authorized and engage in active problem-solving discussions with co-workers and supervisors.
Responsibilities
Know and apply all relevant OSHA, client, and customer safety policies, procedures, and practices.
Perform complex welding assignments independently.
Set up and operate welding equipment for all types of assignments.
Perform practical application of shop mathematics to do layouts and plan work.
Set up and operate oxyacetylene torch and plasma cutter for all types of tasks.
Layout large, critical, and complex fitting and welding assignments.
Perform quality checks during fabrication through visual inspections, using true square or center gauging, measuring, and comparing to print specifications and documented tolerances.
Set up and operate various powered and non-powered hand tools, including drills, grinders, and saws.
Drive and operate trucks, forklifts, and boom lifts after receiving training and authorization.
Actively discuss job-related information with co-workers and supervisors for understanding and problem-solving.
Cross-train in different aspects of the business/shop to learn about the products.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in steel, shear/brake press, iron work, MIG welding, fabrication, and blueprint reading.
2+ years of fabrication experience OR a 2-year technical degree in welding.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with oxyacetylene torch and plasma cutter.
Ability to perform quality checks during fabrication.
Team player with good communication skills.
Flexibility to work on various tasks as needed.

Work Environment
The work environment includes a residential land setup with a house for office employees and three different buildings for fabrication, painting, and receiving steel. The team is small, with about 8-9 fabrication employees at full staff. The shop operates from 7 AM to 4 PM with an hour lunch, but may adjust to a 6 AM start with a half-hour lunch during hot weeks to ensure an early finish. Teamwork is essential, as tasks are often completed in pairs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of AMES, Iowa.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
