Job Description

Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mission isMaking Lives Better Through Transportation. Location : Ames, IA

Shift Requirements : 8:00-4:30 M-F, Schedule has some flexibility

As an Auction/Disposal Manager (Purchasing Agent 2) your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Physically arrange and prepare items for auctions

  • Coordinate, post, and review items for online auctions

  • Schedule and assist buyers with pickup or delivery of the purchased items

  • Resolve customer disputes, negotiates settlements between buyers and sellers when there are hidden defects

  • Operate a forklift, loader and other large equipment to load auction items.

  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct online/live public auctions, coordinating with the auctioneer, security, concessionaire, accounting office and other support functions

  • Maintain auction facilities including the building, parking lot, and surrounding areas. Removes snow, blades rock, controls vegetation and maintains fences

  • Other activities as needed including assisting Resources and Acquisitions Bureau

    CDL: Possess a valid Commercial Learner’s Permit upon hire; within 45 calendar days following appointment, a valid Class B CDL with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and maintained until getting your Class A CDL; and within five (5) months following appointment, a valid Class A CDL with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and maintained in order to continue employment.

    Drug & Alcohol Testing: Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer’s random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school, or G.E.D., and six years of full-time work in the procurement of technical, standardized, expendable and non-expendable items;

OR

graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business or public administration, accounting or economics and two years of the required experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of education (30 semester hours or one year) for each year of the required experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months as a Purchasing Agent 1.
