What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Principal Network Engineer Position

We are seeking an experienced Principal Network Engineer to join our dynamic IT team! As a Principal Network Engineer, you will be a key technical leader within the Network Engineering team, responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex, large-scale network infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in Cisco products and solutions, including Cisco ACI, DNA Center, Firepower, Full Stack Observability, programmability, Cisco SD-WAN, and DMVPN, among others. You will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the network supports the organization’s evolving business requirements and strategic goals, including cloud integration with platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and managing DNS/DHCP/IPAM with Infoblox.

What You Get to Do:

  • Lead the design, deployment, and management of the organization’s network infrastructure, ensuring it meets current and future needs.

  • Develop and maintain network architecture standards, including integration with cloud environments such as GCP.

  • Implement and optimize Cisco ACI and DNA Center for streamlined network automation and centralized management.

  • Develop, rationalize, and optimize enterprise and remote site facility networks.

  • Design and manage Cisco SD-WAN solutions to provide secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity across the organization.

  • Oversee the deployment and management of Cisco Firepower and other security tools (such as Algosec, Cisco ISE, etc.) to safeguard the network against threats and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Implement network security best practices, including segmentation, policy enforcement, and secure access controls.

  • Deploy and manage Cisco’s Splunk Observability tools (ThousandEyes, AppDynamics, etc.) to gain comprehensive visibility across the network.

  • Proactively monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Lead initiatives in network programmability using Cisco’s tools and open-source solutions to automate routine tasks, enhance efficiency, and reduce human error.

  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools for network configuration, monitoring, and management.

  • Collaborate with systems and cloud engineering teams to support and implement hybrid cloud networking solutions, with a focus on integration with GCP.

  • Ensure seamless connectivity and integration between on-premises networks and cloud environments.

  • Oversee the management of DNS, DHCP, and IP address management using Infoblox.

  • Ensure accurate and efficient IP address allocation and management across the organization.

  • Serve as the highest level of technical escalation for complex network issues, providing expert troubleshooting and resolution.

  • Mentor and guide junior network engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, processes, and standards.

  • Provide regular reports on network performance, security, and capacity planning to senior leadership.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally, 10+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.

  • Ability to travel to remote business locations as required. Travel estimates are less than 10% of the time.

  • Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are desirable and/or Cisco certifications such as CCNA, CCNP and/or CSM preferred.

  • Ideally, 15+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 6 years in a senior or lead role.

  • Experience with other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and multi-cloud networking.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and deliver complex projects on time.

  • Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent is desirable.
