Claims Complex Directors will ensure high quality claims handling in the Property & Casualty Specialties and General Liability Claims Departments. The roles are responsible for making coverage determinations, investigating losses (including severe/excess major), conducting independent assessment as to the company exposure, and participating in developing and implementing cost effective litigation and action plans to move cases towards timely resolution.

  • Miscellaneous Professional Liability

For certain roles, your clients will be the leaders in their industry and some of the largest corporations in the world. You will have direct oversight of complex and severe general liability, product liability, employers’ liability, and auto liability claims where AIG has primary and/or excess layers of coverage. You will be responsible for the investigation and evaluation of 3rd party casualty claims with potential exposure to multiple AIG policies and directly negotiating settlements with some of the best attorneys in the United States. You will be traveling around the country to direct defense and trial strategy, presenting to senior AIG claims management and working with other motivated experienced claims handlers recognized as industry leaders.

How you will create an impact

  • Interpreting and applying primary and excess policy provisions according to the laws in all 50 states

  • Communicating with clarity all applicable coverage defenses to our insureds, mediators, and other parties

  • Managing outside counsel and review case documents. Directing defense counsel according to the rules and tools applicable to complex, multi-party litigation in all 50 states and document efforts and conclusions

  • Working with experts to evaluate large, general liability and/or specialty claims and articulate repair alternatives and document efforts and conclusions

  • Establishing timely, appropriate reserves for both legal and indemnity exposures, including submission of Major Loss Reports, where required

  • Negotiating maximum contributions from other parties and carriers to effect timely and equitable settlements and document efforts and conclusions

  • Developing close working relationships with dedicated accounts to the mutual benefit of our customers and the company

What you'll need to succeed

  • Generally, 5+ years of complex claims experience; 7+ years of General Liability claims experience

  • Experience with litigation management strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctor preferred

  • Experience with writing and presenting reports to senior management

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Successfully complete required licensing examinations and continuing education requirements

  • +/ 25% travel
