This position will provide Electrical Commissioning & Startup (CSU) Leadership to new plants, retrofit projects, and support turnarounds from development to start up, for all America's (the Region) Projects through the coordination of the activities from the Product Delivery Organization in collaboration with the regional Operations team.
The position is a mid-level Electrical Commissioning & Startup Technician specialized in electrical equipment testing and commissioning. This position is intended to target candidates with field/operations experience who have an interest in a challenging position within the Americas Commissioning and Startup organization. The Commissioning team supports the safe and efficient construction and startup of various technologies including Hydrogen Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), cryogenic Air Separation (ASU), Partial Oxidation, Hydrogen Electrolysis, cryogenic Syngas, Ammonia, amongst others. The position requires 80 - 85% domestic / global travel.
Key Job Responsibilities:
The position, depending on the incumbent, will primarily support Utilities/Power Generation, raw water/wastewater treatment and may support other technologies which include Air Separation (both large and Generated gas facilities), HYCO, Helium, Gasification, and Ammonia.
Commission and startup the units as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures
A member of a dynamic team that sets the example for being leaders in Safety during the construction, commissioning, startup, and startup stabilization period bringing new assets online.
Provide operations evaluation & determinations, issue technicians direction & guidance, and oversee inspection & quality assurance initiatives for all aspects of the unit operations being supported, including commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities.
Lead and provide support & guidance during the construction & commissioning of the plants. Ensure documentation for all commissioning activities is maintained and submitted via completions database and meet all performance parameters of the plant. Monitor quality assurance initiatives including installation & assembly, alignment, cleanliness, integrity, etc. of the equipment being installed.
Lead and provide commissioning support in the new installation, existing plant modifications, on-going operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for the facilities in the Region. Ensure the activities related meet legal requirements and comply with Air Products safety and operations standards.
Provide operations support and safety leadership for MOC's, PSSR's, and other safety related initiatives to drive process safety compliance. Consult Air Products process safety personnel as required for additional technical support.
Provide commissioning and startup leadership in supporting/leading investigations and Root Cause Analysis to identify & implement sustainable corrective actions.
Provide Commissioning & Startup input and safety leadership for FCN's/ MOC's, OPHR's, and other safety related initiatives in order to drive process safety compliance.
Provide Commissioning and Startup Leadership for the completion of the Pre-Startup and Safety reviews (PSSR).
Provide Commissioning & Startup support to the Operations organizations in order to effectively operate the Utilities/Power Generation, Raw Water/Wastewater Treatment, Hydrogen Electrolysis, ASU, HYCO, Gasification, Helium, and Ammonia facilities in region to meet the customer's satisfaction on safety, reli bility, product quality, and flexibility of product supply while in compliance of contractual requirements.
Resolve installation issues, procedures, and methods by working with Engineering and Operations.
Transfer of projects from Commissioning to Operations - completion of project-specific documentation, electrical drawing redlines, P&IDs, lessons learned, and project close-out report.
Developing work processes and strategies for commissioning and start-up activities.
Ensure Air Products standards, global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and overall customer services are met.
Lead the commissioning team in the commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
Lead the training of the operations electrical Technician team through plant commissioning, startup, and normal operation.
Ensure CSU Team is maintaining accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives during the commissioning and startup phase.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
High School diploma and formal technical training in electrical construction, maintenance, and testing is required.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in the Electrical Operations or Commissioning Field.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Broad knowledge of technologies supported, electrical standards, electrical safety systems, and engineering and operating procedures a plus.
Able to work in a team environment and maintain a positive disposition even in times of high stress and workload.
Solve and make good and timely decisions in high stress situations.
Demonstrated ability to operate, commission, startup, troubleshoot, assess, and resolve various plant related issues.
Interpret single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, construction drawings/ details, and other electrical user documentation.
Experience and solid understanding of electrical construction and industry standards such as NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
Experience, and knowledge of electrical distribution system equipment.
Experience with setting up and programming various electrical protection relays, particularly SEL and Multilin
Experience with electrical testing and procedures as well national testing standards (NETA) and test equipment including, but not limited to, multi-function meter, insulation resistance tester (megger), low resistance ohmmeter (Ductor), high potential dielectric withstand equipment (hi-pot), current injection units and sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) equipment
Working, hands-on experience, and troubleshooting knowledge of E&I equipment including: DCS systems, Fiber optic communications, low voltage (<600V) switchgear, low voltage motor control centers, low and medium voltage induction motors, diesel generators, low voltage power and control cables, DC battery systems, uninterruptible power supplies, and electrical protection relays.
Ability to take on or assist with other construction and commissioning roles.
Based in Pennsylvania, Texas, or Louisiana is not required, but preferred.
The successful candidate is required to complete an 18 - 24-month training & qualification process to achieve the Air Products QEC title.
