National Science Foundation Technical Writer, GS-1083-12 NF (Detail/Temporary Promotion) in Alexandria, Virginia

Summary This position is located in the Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP). The incumbent serves as a Technical Writer Editor in the Office of the Assistant Director (OAD) in TIP. This role serves as the primary editor for the TIP Directorate, editing a diverse range of documents for publication as a member of the TIP communications team, led by the Communications Specialist. Responsibilities As a Technical Writer, GS-1083-12 NF (Detail/Temporary Promotion), you will perform the following duties: Reviews composed manuscripts for the proper use of footnotes, bibliographic references, cross references, and table and figure references based on the knowledge of program guidelines and material Develops directorate-wide guidelines for content, style, and format, edits comprehensive funding opportunities and other documents for formal publication in electronic and printed formats, provides technical guidance and assistance to authors with a wide range of writing and editing skills. Maintains liaison between TIP/OAD, the Office of Budget, Finance, and Administration, and the Office of Public Affairs (OLPA) regarding TIP publications. Maintains liaison with outside contract editing services to ensure a smoothly running process among authors, editors, and OLPA. Liaison includes numerous telephone calls, emails, and in-person meetings with relevant staff members and contract personnel. Serves as the principal editor, providing substantive, technical, and copy edit services for a wide range of funding opportunities, technical reports, and other documents. Serves as the directorate's principal resource on editorial style, editorial practices, and manuscript editing services. Works with authors of varying writing abilities adjusting editorial assistance Performs the full range of contract management duties. The work requires complete understanding of all aspects of the NSF and TIP Directorate's publishing policies and practices. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a US citizen. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service performing technical writing and editing activities on behalf of an organization. Relevant experience MUST include: substantive editing services for a variety of documents, including those that were technical or complex in nature; working with document authors to provide editing, formatting, and styling advice; and ensuring the proper use of references and footnotes as required. Experience refers to paid/unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) & other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, & skills & can provide valuable training/experience that translates directly to paid work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level. Additional Information Relocation Expenses will not be paid.
