POSITION DESCRIPTION This technologist will become a member of a cross functional team to operate a variety of electronic, electrical and mechanical systems that facilitate daily accelerator operations at the AGT Facilities with an emphasis on electrical systems. The individual could be assigned to work in various areas throughout any of the department’s three accelerators. The individual will share responsibilities for operating, maintaining, and improving electrical and/or mechanical systems associated with the accelerators. This individual will also be required to train others to operate and maintain systems for which they are qualified. Some job activities also require lifting 35 lbs. of weight without assistance. Primary Job Duties: Operating and maintaining accelerator systems to include controls and data acquisition, Qualifying as an Electrical Safety Advisor and supporting the department in electrical safety NRTL inspections, electrical safety oversight and training, Supporting science and engineering research, development, and engineering (RD&E) activities, Working in an accelerator facility to include operating and maintaining experimental equipment, assisting with customer experiments, maintaining a safe environment, and documenting required records, Performing a wide variety of technical procedures with minimal direction, Following step by step procedures for job duties strictly adhere to ES&H procedures. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience with operation of mechanical, electronic and/or electrical equipment, Position requires the ability to lift objects up to 35 lbs, Experience with working in a team and/or independent environment, The positions require work at government facilities and the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen capable of acquiring a government security clearance, Ability to work in a diverse work environment, Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening, Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Previous experience on DOE sites and programs, The applicant should be capable of multitasking and taking direction from members of technical staff, Demonstrated ability to produce technical documentation, Familiar with MS Office products such as: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook, Five years or more experience in electrical maintenance and operations, Technical apprenticeship or journeyman training. ABOUT THE TEAM LOCATION Albuquerque, New Mexico ABOUT THE TEAM The Accelerator Operations Department (1332) is responsible for the operation and continual development of the Saturn, HERMES III, and SPHINX pulsed power accelerators. The primary objective of the department is to provide an applied research environment for radiation effects and weapon physics experiments. The machines generate electrical pulses of up to 20 million Volts and up to 12 million Amperes with nanosecond durations to create very intense radiation environments. These hostile environments present very challenging research and development opportunities in areas such as: current, voltage, X-ray and Gamma-ray diagnostics, data acquisition, control and automation systems. Department 1332 also conducts pulsed power research and development to improve radiation source fidelity, increase the machines’ output and fluence, as well as to improve the overall reliability and reproducibility of the accelerators. These unique, world class facilities are an essential part of the NNSA's Stockpile Stewardship Program.
