What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Support ES&H performance assurance, which includes, but is not limited to: assessments, measures/metrics, occurrence management, issues management, trending analysis, and overall organizational and safety cultural improvement initiatives.

  • Employ a structured system approach that models the interactions between all components and ensures integration.

  • Facilitate and/or Participate in the ESH occurrence/event/issue reporting and tracking processes.

  • Facilitate and/or Participate event fact finding, causal analyses, and effectiveness reviews.

  • Write fact-finding, causal analysis reports, and effectiveness review reports.

  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly reports to executive leadership and as requested status information on events/occurrences.

  • Support the development of ES&H and Corporate level metrics and trending analysis reporting to improve overall SNL performance.

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and development of self-serve data visualizations to enable partners throughout the laboratory.

  • Manage relationships with DOE program oversight at headquarters and the Sandia Field Office, and with colleagues of all levels of staff and management at SNL and other DOE sites.

  • Interface with customers and stakeholders involved in the development, testing, and implementation of the system and its elements to ensure customer expectations are met, employing customer service skills and a consultative approach to provide guidance and make informed recommendations based on specific requirements and circumstances.

This position is hybrid, where the selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$70,200 - $157,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline or other relevant area, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications including strong technical writing, word processing, and oral presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills including experience in developing and sustaining effective relationships.

  • Familiarity with multiple ESH disciplines.

  • Experience with investigating events, identifying causes, and developing corrective actions.

  • Ability to support multiple causals, assessments, metrics, and/or continuous learning projects simultaneously while providing effective execution of planning, tracking, execution, and closure cycles.

  • Results oriented individual who has excellent attention to detail and drives for excellence.

  • Knowledge of DOE ISMS principles and overall ES&H management system implementation and integration.

The Department collects, analyzes, and reports information concerning Sandia's Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) performance; supports ES&H subject matter experts in transforming regulatory requirements into processes, procedures, and websites; provides ES&H expertise in support of the Contractor Assurance System (CAS); and provides subject matter expertise to include occurrence management, issues management, and assessments. Services include on-site technical assistance, training, document reviews, audits and assessment, ES&H operating experience/lessons learned, analysis of performance assurance information, and providing results of ad hoc queries of safety incident data.The Department collects, analyzes, and reports information concerning Sandia's Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) performance; supports ES&H subject matter experts in transforming regulatory requirements into processes, procedures, and websites; provides ES&H expertise in support of the Contractor Assurance System (CAS); and provides subject matter expertise to include occurrence management, issues management, and assessments. Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
