SR. RESEARCH SCIENTIST III, SOLID FORM DEVELOPMENT in Albany, NY

The Senior Research Scientist III (SRS III), Solid Form Development will design, adapt or create/develop a means to gather, analyze and report information, and lead others in the process; and/or develop innovative policy initiatives; may lead to operationalizing/adapting the process or product which has significant impact on stakeholders. May provide leadership and technical consulting to several teams.

The Senior Research Scientist III is an integral part of the Curia team, contributing to our success by performing solid form screening, crystallization process development experiments, interpreting solid state analytical data, and expertly reporting the results.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties

  • Serve as a technical expert for the Materials Science and Particle Engineering group.

  • Lead technical groups consisting of scientists and group leaders in conducting multiple simultaneous projects requiring a wide range of problem-solving skills with strong commitment to customer expectations

  • Allocate resources for the Materials Science and Particle Engineering groups according to site priorities

  • Perform as well as oversee laboratory experiments in the areas of crystallization process development and solid form screening of pharmaceutical compounds including but not limited to polymorph, salt, cocrystal, crystallization and solid dispersion screens.

  • Interpret data from a wide range of solid-state and particle characterization techniques.

  • Convey experimental and analytical results to clients in data summaries and reports.

  • Maintain appropriate documentation (records and lab notebooks).

  • Meet timelines for delivering on clients' expectations.

  • Communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external clients, both verbally and through written data summaries and reports.

  • Design experimental plans and write appropriately scoped proposals for clients.

  • Provide clients with properly scoped proposals for solid form screening and crystallization process develop projects

  • Provide expert scientific review of highly technical reports for clients

  • Recommend and implement procedures and techniques to increase the quality of solid form screening services

  • Regularly interact with other Curia colleagues (including sales, marketing, procurement, etc.) to provide the best possible service to clients

  • Comply with cGMP procedures, safety requirements, and company policies.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

· Ph.D. in Materials Science or Engineering, Physical Chemistry or related field

· Minimum 9 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including 3 years in a managerial role

Preferred

· Thorough knowledge of and hands-on experience with pharmaceutical solids and/or crystallization process development.

· Experience working in a GMP environment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in the interpretation of solid-state analytical data including XRPD, microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis and knowledge of wet chemistry principles

  • Extensive knowledge and working experience in solid state drug development

  • Knowledge of cGMP regulations for the pharmaceutical industry

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong leadership skills

Salary: $121,000 - $151,790/yr.

Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
