General Description

The Pre-op/PACU RN will assist in providing high quality care during the pre-op and post-op phase of the patient's visit.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery;

  • Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct;

  • Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure;

  • Assess patients’ post-operative condition;

  • Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress to ensure patient is meeting discharge criteria;

  • Document all findings in patient files;

  • Answer patient questions to ensure patient comfort;

  • Monitor patients for condition changes, report any changes to physician;

  • Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies;

  • Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care;

  • Other responsibilities as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted NYS RN license;

  • Minimum of 2 years previous PACU or critical care experience required;

  • Ability to effectively communicate with providers, patients and peers;

  • Candidate must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping flow to reasonable time frame in post-operative care;

  • Specialized knowledge, skill and abilities in perioperative nursing;

  • Capable of decision making when applicable.

Other Information

  • Ability to travel to various OrthoNY locations if needed. Reliable transportation is essential.

  • Schedules are Monday through Friday; No weekends, holidays, or on-call.
