Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a New York State Professional Engineer License and current registration. In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Director of the Traffic Engineering Bureau, a part-time Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) will serve as the Workforce Development & Support Unit Leader within the Traffic Engineering Bureau.The incumbent will be responsible for: conducting research on topics pertaining to traffic engineering and operations, working with Regional Safety Evaluation Engineers to conduct “before/after” studies to determine effectiveness of innovative and/or experimental traffic control devices, developing the Traffic Operations Manual, a reference manual for Operations staff containing NYSDOT Traffic policies and practices, researching and acquiring training classes and resources to grow the Department’s expertise in traffic operations engineering, and acting as the Traffic Engineering Bureau’s liaison to professional organizations, such as the Pooled Fund and the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
