This position will provide a bridge between inpatient and outpatient behavioral health care. The mental health provider will work with the inpatient medical team to identify children and adolescents with mental health needs who do not currently have established mental health care in the community. The clinician will begin seeing those patients for counseling during their inpatient stay and continue to follow them after their discharged back to the community.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced behavioral health clinician with previous experience working with children, youth and their families, familiar with diagnostic evaluation for the most common behavioral health concerns for this age group including ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Autism and trauma. The clinician will also be skilled with use of therapeutic treatment modalities including CBT, DBT and behavioral interventions. Experience working in the hospital setting and with a multidisciplinary team is helpful, but not required.

This Behavioral Health Counselor will function as a mid-level provider responsible for mental health assessments and psychotherapy for an active caseload of children, adolescents, and families with developmental, psychological, and behavioral concerns. The provider needs to possess knowledge of a variety of psychological theories and demonstrate skill with the provision of various treatment modalities including individual, group and family treatment. Position functions as an independent and self-directed practitioner, as well an active member of the interdisciplinary team. This provider demonstrates self-awareness regarding issues that arise in the treatment setting, identifies impediments to treatment progress and can address those issues to supervision. This clinician will be responsible for formal and informal teaching of Pediatric Residents and Psychology Interns as well as other staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct and documents behavioral health evaluations including developmental, academic, and mental health history of child or adolescent presenting for treatment.

  2. Provide urgent crisis intervention as needed and ongoing psychotherapy for children, adolescents and their families through individual and group modalities using a wide range of psychological theories.

  3. Function as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team assisting with the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the practice.

  4. Assist patients and their families with assistance in accessing necessary community resources and supports.

  5. Interface with schools, other community agencies and service providers to insure appropriate behavioral health care is provided.

  6. Responsible for timely completion of all annual mandatory educational requirements for this position.

  7. Fulfill all requirements of the Competency Based Orientation and ongoing evaluation tools regarding the standard requirements for behavioral health staff.

8.Participate in other duties and job functions as assigned by Division or supervisor.

Education, Licensure, and Certification required:

Minimum of Master’s degree in Psychology or Social Work. Must hold NYS Licensure in discipline which enables clinician to bill for clinical services.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting therapy with children, adolescents, and families in a clinical setting.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have an educational base in childhood development with understanding of complex developmental and behavioral concerns. Must be able to work with complex family systems to achieve desired therapeutic outcomes.

Salary Range: $65,057.00/annually - $ 107,343.00/annually
