The role of the Employment Specialist is to provide prevocational services to individuals with disabilities. Community-based prevocational services aim to prepare individuals for competitive, integrated employment through volunteer experiences and work readiness training. In addition to teaching work-readiness curriculum, the Employment Specialist will facilitate volunteer activities in the community and evaluate the skills of each individual, such as following directions, attending to tasks, managing stress, and working safely.

DUTIES:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of individuals receiving OPWDD and/or ACCES-VR services

  • Prepare curriculum and teach work-readiness classes

  • Create daily schedule and adjust as necessary to meet the needs of clients

  • Observe client performance and make service recommendations based on observations of performance

  • Collaborate with employers in the community to secure volunteer opportunities

  • Assist individuals in learning and performing volunteer tasks through job coaching & training

  • Collaborate with Care Coordination Organizations, state agencies, family members, and other resources to coordinate services

  • Complete all required documentation, including case notes, monthly summaries, and an annual evaluation

Since the majority of duties are carried out in the community, candidates must be independent and capable of exercising good judgment. Candidates must have excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong writing, organizational and time management skills are essential. Candidates must be flexible in adjusting work hours to meet the support needs of their clients.

Full-time and Part-time available.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher

  • At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • Strong case management and communication skills

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required
