POSITION: Aviation Administration (Intern)

REPORTS TO: Assistant Airport Manager

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Intern may rotate through all departments, or be assigned to one of the departments listed below. The intern will report to the respective department Manager(s). This position will not certify interns to operate company vehicles at the airport facility or within the Aeronautical Operation Area (AOA) of the airport, which includes all ramps, taxiways and runways. This position is for ninety (90) days, working a maximum of twenty-five (25) hours per week, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

BASIC FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to the following:

Administration

  • May assist with performing filing, including sorting and arranging of materials into files according to prescribed system.

  • May assist with opening and sorting incoming and inter-company mail for distribution.

  • May assist with preparing outgoing letters and packages.

  • May assist with answering and screening phone calls in a professional manner.

  • Greet visitors and take messages.

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Maintenance

  • May assist with airside and landside maintenance tasks.

  • May assist with preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • May assist with building maintenance tasks.

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Operations

  • May assist with recording aircraft operations information.

  • May assist with daily inspections.

  • May assist with security inspections.

  • May assist with updating department reports.

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Parking

  • May assist with providing Customer Service to patrons, tenants, and employees.

  • May assist with directing vehicular traffic when necessary.

  • Observe CCTV footage of the airport garages and parking lot areas.

  • May assist with conducting vehicular patrols (as a passenger in the vehicle) and/or on foot patrols of the airport garages and parking lots.

  • May assist with monitoring space availability of the airport parking garages and lots.

  • May assist with advising Airport Operations when the airport parking garages and lots are full and/or closed and have been reopened.

  • May assist with placing barricades at entrances when airport parking garages and/or lots are full.

  • May assist with answering phone calls in a professional manner.

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Information Technology

  • May assist with installing and maintaining personal computers, mobile devices and networks, including all peripheral equipment;

  • May assist with installing network cabling;

  • May assist with upgrading computers and peripheral equipment;

  • May assist with testing and troubleshooting network cabling;

  • May assist with maintaining computer inventory and maintenance records;

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Airfield

  • Observe Airfield Airport Maintenance Technicians and/or Vehicle Mechanics as they perform a wide variety of tasks involved in repairing and maintaining electric, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicle.

  • Observe Airfield Airport Maintenance Technicians as they repair and maintain airport electrical systems and components associated with the airport environment and facilities

  • Observe Glycol Process Operators as they record and adjust the storm water collection, containment and treatment system.

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    Environmental Services

  • Observe the Environmental Services Manager and/or the Custodial Supervisor in the overseeing of sub-contracted service vendors including floor care contractors, window-cleaning contractors, waste removal contractors, regulated waste contractors, and pest control contractors.

  • May assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • May assists with receiving cleaning materials

  • Perform any other approved related duties as assigned by the Department Manager

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled in an aviation related or an undergraduate program; or be a recent graduate of an accredited college with an Associates, Bachelor of Science, or related degree.

  • Must pass drug test and complete New York State Support Staff fingerprinting process.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee intern may be required to work under adverse weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
