Role Purpose :

The selected candidate will be responsible for installing, commissioning, programming, updating, and troubleshooting assembly cell equipment and individual operations. Role Requires proficiency with Rockwell and Siemens software. Ability to program and troubleshoot PLC programs, HMI, and Yaskawa/Motoman robots is required. Selected candidate will work closely with a cross functional team to implement automation projects and improve assembly cell efficiency or throughput.

This position directly supports the entire production organization by:

  • Performing all controls engineering tasks required to troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade all existing equipment and data collection systems.

  • Verifying all new, modified, or upgraded equipment for the Roxboro plant meets GKN´s predetermined requirements prior to starting production.

  • Developing engineering solutions to eliminate equipment/process failures.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive all actions to ensure the plant achieves its Safety, Quality, Delivery & Productivity Goals.

  • Evaluates machines or products on manufacturing floor for system related problems and recommends or implements corrective action.

  • Be part of the team and develop site automation engineering strategy.

  • Provide regular updates to manager on progress and status of projects; Submits alternative solutions on problems and areas of concerns.

  • Work collaboratively with other functions in the organization to achieve objectives.

  • Provide Hands on support in troubleshooting, repairing, modifying electrical, PLC programming, and process operation data collection issues. Document solutions and reviews with team.

  • Access, Maintain and Manage the change of PLC programs with historical programming notes and comments on the GKN intranet.

  • Be responsive, flexible and dedicated to support production needs and priorities of the facility .

  • Must have working (hands on) knowledge of the following:

  1. Electrical Schematics (read and write)

  2. Programming: Java, C+3. Motoman Robots

  3. Power circuits up to 480 VAC 3 phase

  4. DC Control Circuits voltages to 24 VDC

  5. Digital oscilloscopes

  6. Required proficiency with Rockwell Software including: RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000 Enterprise Series, RSLinx, RSNetWorx, RSview32, FactoryTalkView, HMIs’

  7. Desired proficiency with Siemens Software including Simatic Manger Step7, Drive ES/Simotion, WinCCFlex

  8. Autocad LT

  9. Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence)

  10. Servo drives (Allen-Bradley, Kolmorgen, and Siemens)

  • Integration of robotics and automation with machine tools and systems. (According to all relevant standards)

  • Electrical control and safety system specification, design, and build. (Includes panel builds and wiring).

  • Utilize LEAN tools such as Standardized Work, 5S, Visual Management as well as leading Kaizen projects and documenting results to support continuous improvement projects.

Experience and essential qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree

  • Advanced English

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis.

Essential Skills:

  • Training and minimum 2 yrs. experience with electrical circuits, control systems and safety systems.

  • Training and minimum 2 yrs. experience with power circuits up to 480 vac.

  • Training and minimum 2 yrs. experience with PLC and HMI programming.

  • Solid understanding of robot programming and ladder logic.

  • Proficiency with: PC’s, Industrial networks, PLC’s, HMI’s, Safety Controllers, vision systems, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Outlook, Industrial robot programming.

  • Able to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
