The Opportunity

This position works out of our Costa Rica – Alajuela location in the Electrophysiology Division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor, you’ll support kitting and dispatch materials process as per production planning requirements. Support receiving incoming materials. Support finish good shipments packaging and miscellaneous shipping task. Assist in all material and container movement between warehouse areas. Any other activity related with material logistic movements and process. Support cycle count process. Support to other Supply Chain areas. Assist in movements of hazardous materials.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and assign resources to address business needs, including staffing levels, overtime needs and projects.

  • Maintains personnel records (work schedules, vacation schedules, leaves) and makes or directs modifications in the database to reflect actual changes. Ensure all assigned personnel are in personal training compliance and unique training needs of the group are met.

  • Implements a staffing plan by identifying resource requirements, writing justifications for additional personnel, obtaining approval for changes, and coordinating the selection process with Human Resources.

  • Promote a safe work environment by ensuring the highest standards in employee safety.

  • Supervise, train, and develop nonexempt personnel; develop goals/objectives for all assigned personnel; performance against goals, provide performance feedback; write and conduct development plans performance appraisals; manage employee HR issues.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining effectiveness of the quality system by ensuring quality/compliance of manufacturing production process. Pro-actively seek ways to maintain and improve quality & microbiology standards.

  • Responsible for budget management, meeting daily goals; proactively seek ways to support the customer (i.e., woo-King with engineering to find alternative resolutions that to issues, while maintaining compliance, without stopping production).

  • Direct support for compliance & microbiology audits (internal and external).

  • Other responsibilities assigned by the manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in microbiology, Engineering, Biology, Science or related field.

  • 3+ years of working experience on similar roles as technical area supervisor, engineering, microbiologist position or equivalent laboratory environment.

  • Proficiency in computer applications (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint).

  • Articulates microbiology technical concepts well.

  • Must have knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's), Bacteriology and use of lab equipment.

  • Intermediate commands of English required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a Science field or Administration is a plus
