MDS Coordinator Job Description
Overview The MDS Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of care provided to residents in nursing facilities and home care settings. This position is responsible for coordinating the assessment process, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and facilitating effective communication among healthcare team members. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical coding, utilization review, and patient care systems, with a focus on delivering high-quality service while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
Duties - Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents using the Minimum Data Set (MDS) to determine their needs and develop appropriate care plans. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that all aspects of resident care are addressed and documented accurately. - Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements related to MDS submissions and ensure timely completion of assessments. - Perform utilization reviews to assess the appropriateness of services provided and identify areas for improvement. - Maintain accurate records in accordance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information. - Provide training and support to nursing staff regarding MDS processes, coding, and documentation standards. - Stay updated on changes in regulations related to MDS, DRG, and other relevant healthcare policies.
Requirements - Proven experience in home care or nursing home settings is preferred. - Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical coding practices is essential. - Knowledge of utilization review processes and DRG systems is highly desirable. - Experience working in ICU or pediatrics is a plus. - Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with healthcare teams. - Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. - A valid nursing license or relevant certification may be required depending on the specific healthcare setting.

Pay: $34.35 - $36.07 per hour
