Job Description

Serves as a geodetic technician and is responsible for geodetic studies, surveys and investigations which involve the collection and processing of surveying and mapping data in support of Army testing. Serves under the supervision of an employee of higher grade who assigns specific area of project support. Works independently to accomplish assigned functions without specific instructions as to work methods and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities * Receives guidance and instructions in dealing with unfamiliar practices and problems. * Work is reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy of the technical support provided. * Incumbent applies practical knowledge of theories and techniques of geodesy particularly as it relates to the identity, reliability and usefulness of geodetic control data as required in the execution and adjustment of geodetic survey data. * Meets with Test Directors and Customers to determine work requirements and data collection. * Incumbent shall have advanced knowledge in analyzing obscure field data, operating as a factfinder in which tentative evaluations are provided, providing data for several different datum’s and grid systems where field data is frequently vague, fragmented, and inaccurate or modified with new data. * Has advanced knowledge in performing a variety of surveying duties to accuracies specified by the Customer and or National Geodetic Survey/ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in establishment of range tables, firing positions, hit points, radar and instrumentation locations, fiducial marker placement, lines of fire, scoring system calibration, and control points where a detailed knowledge of the use of complex instruments and of operating techniques is required. * Executes stakeouts, installation of surveying monuments or surveying controls. * Performs comprehensive topographic surveys or level runs. * Responsible for selection, setup and adjustment and operation of various pieces of electronic instrumentation. * Has knowledge and is proficient in performing a variety of high-definition survey (3D laser scanning) duties to include data collection and processing of test vehicles and items of varying sizes, complexity and conditions. * Scanning requirements shall vary greatly in terms of accuracy, difficult and level of detail. * Be proficient in planning, setting up, and operating various laser scanning equipment without assistance of higher-level employee. * Operates various software packages for post-scan processing of collected data. * Performs assessments of collected data in an office setting to include downloading collected data, importing high-definition survey scans into processing software, registering scans, checking accuracy, manipulating and improving point cloud. * Post-process collected data for mission deliverables. * Collects and tabulate data, record and archive information, make field calculation to ensure accuracies meet those specified by the Customer and or National Geodetic Survey/ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and author detailed daily and summary reports. * Writes reports or technical documents as required. * Work may require entering confined spaces, climbing in or under vehicles and traversing adverse terrain. * Adapts to rapidly changing operational tempo and new procedures. * Proficient in setting-up, adjusting, and operating various pieces of electronic instrumentation. * Work is reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy of services provided, satisfactory execution of the job and conformance with instructions. * Pending on mission requirements, work may be performed outdoors where there are regular and recurring exposures to all kinds of weather conditions. * Incumbent shall direct, and train junior employees engaged in geodetic field surveys in compiling, interpreting and reducing surveying data. * Work requires the use of protective equipment and clothing. * Requires the ability to carry loads/heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.). * Other duties as assigned. * May require overtime work (25-30% of the time) or TDY if testing is performed in areas away from the installation (25-30% of the time).

Qualifications

Pay Rate $ 48.21Required Skills and Qualifications* Must have 5 yr. of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year applicable experience.* Shall possess basic computer skills.Physical Qualifications* The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment.* Must be able to enter confined spaces, climb in or under vehicles, and traverse adverse terrain.* Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted.* Must be capable of squatting, crouching, standing, climbing, stooping, and sitting, sometimes for extended periods while performing duties.* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.* Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilities.Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements* Must be a U.S. Citizen.* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests. * Must be able to successfully complete a background check. * Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
