New York University Assistant Research Scholar/ Research Coordinator in 370 Jay St. Brooklyn, United States

The NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management (NYU Marron) invites applications for an Assistant Research Scholar / Research Coordinator starting in spring 2024. This position has a wide range of responsibilities, including data analysis and writing on applied-research projects, community-engaged scholarship, grant management, and office management. This is a one-year position ending on May 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal, depending on availability of funding.

About NYU Marron: NYU Marron conducts innovative applied research, working with cities to take on critical challenges of urban living.Currently, the Marron Institute has six major research programs focused on urban planning (http://marroninstitute.nyu.edu/programs/urban-expansion) , environmental health, civic analytics, transportation and land use, human trafficking, and public-sector performance and innovation.

The salary range for this position will be $85,000-$95,000.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Research Scholar / Research Coordinator position will reside in the Director’s Office, liaising with the Institute’s programs and initiatives and can expect to:

  • Support the generation of applied research for use in support of public decision-making. Assist with data acquisition, preparation, management, and analysis in support of established research projects. Disseminate research through presentations at stakeholder meetings and scientific conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. [30%]

  • Build relationships with stakeholders and engage with them, and other collaborators/partners, to aid the design and implementation of applied-research projects. Develop research processes that are meaningful to the research team. Develop and implement strategies for effective communication and outreach to keep the research partners informed and involved. Manage and coordinate capacity building with research partners to ensure that project deliverables are achieved in a timely manner and meet funder expectations. [40%]

  • Foster the Institute’s culture and core values by planning team-building events and meetings, promoting in-person interactions, providing support and solutions to staff needs. Liaise with other research areas within the university to facilitate research collaboration. [5%]

  • Provide support for Director’s Office functions. Support pre- and post-award grant administration, management-designated project maintenance, personnel allocations, pre- and post-subaward management, contract drafting, pre- and post-award budgeting, supplier onboarding, purchase-order management, supplier-payment processing, employee reimbursement and travel, student management, student-employee recruitment and onboarding, supplier and employee payment troubleshooting, event management, visitor and affiliate management, office management. [25%]

    Minimum Required Qualifications :

  • 5 years work experience in related areas—public sector, criminal justice, public health (or a closely related field)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental health

  • Experience with applied-research data analysis

  • Performance-, data-, and project-management experience overseeing complex projects that involve multiple sectors, including government and nonprofit

  • Highly organized and detail oriented

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related field
