Position Title: Wind Technician

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Position Purpose:

This position assists with the maintenance, repair, and operation of all wind farm mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and computer control equipment at the 122 MW Prairie Winds North Dakota Wind Farm (PWND) or the 172 MW Prairie Winds South Dakota Wind Farm (PWSD).

Essential Functions:

  • Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Implement or issue equipment clearances in preparation for inspection, testing, or maintenance. On return of clearance, inspect and return the equipment to normal operation. Follow prescribed clearance procedures, and assist with the development of new procedures.

  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and calibration of all wind farm equipment. This includes all electrical, computer, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control, hydraulic, and mechanical equipment.

  • Troubleshoot wind farm electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computer control systems to return them to service in a timely manner.

  • Ensure tools and equipment are in sound working condition; and clean shop and other work areas, as assigned.

  • Utilize appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or isolate energy sources to ensure work is performed in a safe manner.

  • Write technical procedures, update logs and reports on plant equipment maintenance, and maintain an inventory of replacement parts.

  • Complete and maintain required and accurate documentation and records on all plant maintenance.

  • Monitor Conditioned Monitoring System (CMS) and take appropriate action for preventative maintenance.

  • Perform grounds maintenance, such as mowing and snow removal.

  • Maintain the remote supervisory systems between PWND/PWSD and the Deer Creek Station.

  • Monitor and accept all Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Day-ahead market awards.

  • Properly enter all outages and de-rates in the PCI software system.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of all plant equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Two-year degree in an electrical or mechanical vocational program; and three years of power plant/wind generation or industrial/maintenance related experience; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of power plant/wind generation or industrial/maintenance related experience.

  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

  • Able to perform first aid and CPR - training provided by the Company.

  • Certified in Tower Rescue within 6 months of hire date.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Resume required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent standing, walking, and climbing; and occasional sitting, bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds, lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, and using keyboard/computer. The incumbent may occasionally lift up to 125 pounds with assistance. This position requires finger dexterity, good color vision, and good hearing. Working conditions may frequently include chemicals and noise, and occasionally extreme heat/cold and dirt/dust. This position must be respirator qualified. Some travel may be required. The incumbent must be able to operate a motor vehicle and must be able to consistently climb and feel comfortable climbing wind turbine towers at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment. This position will perform demanding work at heights under adverse conditions, including confined spaces. The incumbent will be on call and will be required to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and during emergency site outages, as needed. The incumbent must remain fit for duty and must remain in compliance with ANZI Z359 fall protection code standards. (Equipment weight ranges between 18-28 lbs. ANZI Standards, effective 03/20/16, weight maximum with equipment is 310 lbs.)

Wage : $40.63 per hour
